Develop your engineering career at JLL! A Commercial HVAC/R Technician is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems in commercial buildings. They ensure that these systems operate efficiently and meet the required standards for temperature control, air quality, and energy efficiency. You will work with a JLL team that manages the client campus. This is a union position - International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE Local 39)
Location: Milpitas, CA 95035
Schedule: On-site, Sunday-Thursday: 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM with a rotating on-call schedule for after-hour emergencies
Reporting to: Chief Engineer
Type of Employment: Full-Time w/JLL + IUOE Local 39 benefits (health and welfare, pension plans, vacation, and sick leave)
Compensation: $60.82 an hour + $1.75 shift premium
Job Summary:A Commercial HVAC/R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration) Technician is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems in commercial buildings. They ensure that these systems operate efficiently and meet the required standards for temperature control, air quality, and energy efficiency.
Duties and Responsibilities:Installation and Maintenance:
Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain HVAC/R systems in commercial buildings.
Inspect and test HVAC/R equipment to identify malfunctions, diagnose problems, and make necessary repairs or replacements.
Perform routine maintenance tasks, including cleaning and inspecting HVAC/R systems to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
Calibration of thermostats, controls, and sensors to ensure accurate temperature and humidity control.
System Design and Upgrades:
Collaborate with engineering teams to design HVAC/R systems for new construction projects or building renovations.
Analyze blueprints and technical specifications to determine the appropriate HVAC/R system layout, equipment selection, and capacity requirements.
Recommend system upgrades or modifications to enhance energy efficiency and reduce operational costs.
Compliance and Safety:
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, codes, and safety standards related to HVAC/R systems.
Perform regular inspections to identify and address potential safety hazards.
Handle and dispose of refrigerant chemicals in accordance with environmental regulations.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, repairs, and installations performed, including parts used and labor hours.
Provide detailed reports to supervisors or clients regarding the condition of HVAC/R systems, suggested repairs, and necessary replacements.
Qualifications and Skills:High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a trade school program or apprenticeship in HVAC/R is preferred.
IUOE Local 39 union member or interest in membership
Relevant certifications (e.g., EPA 608 Universal Certification) may be required.
Proven experience as an HVAC/R technician, preferably in a commercial setting.
Strong knowledge of HVAC/R systems, components, and controls.
Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing various HVAC/R system issues.
Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Knowledge of local building codes and safety regulations.
Physical stamina and ability to work in various weather conditions.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Estimated total compensation for this position:
