The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is responsible for the health and safety of all citizens and visitors to the state. As a public health agency, the Florida Department of Health must monitor the health status of Floridians, diagnose, and investigate health problems, and mobilize local communities to address health-related issues. The Florida Department of Health develops policies and plans that support health goals, enforce laws and regulations that protect the health of all residents and visitors, and link people to needed health care services. The Florida Department of Health also provides specialized assistance to pregnant women, infants, and children with special health care needs, regulates health care practitioners, and provides medical disability determinations.
Statistical Assistant III:
Your Specific Responsibilities:
The incumbent is responsible for operating and maintaining information through the STD Patient Reporting Investigating Surveillance Manager (STARS) system and the DOH Health Management System (HMS, ELR), reports of positive labs daily for Syphilis (including congenital cases), Chlamydia, Gonorrhea and HIV by telephone, fax, mail, and determining the correct activity to be performed.
+ The incumbent is responsible for updating the computer with any new information provided on labs and reactors, clients’ demographic data, case information or other pertinent data.
+ Responsible for interacting with the State Health Office, other CHD’s, private physicians, laboratories, and other reporting sources to ensure necessary information is received on positive labs, contacts, suspects, and associates.
+ Routinely answer questions from the public dealing with the STD’s or ensuring proper referrals
+ The incumbent is responsible for receiving, organizing, and maintaining records of all Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia and HIV laboratory results that are reported to the Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County STD program.
+ Maintains a file of all labs reported for a designated time frame. Responsible for purging STD files on a routine basis as directed by protocol or management, including labs and field investigation records.

+ Ability to investigate and interview clients/patient to obtain relevant information
+ Bilingual ability (English and Spanish), preferred
Qualifications:
Minimum –
+ 2 years of customer service experience in a healthcare setting
+ 2 years of experience with data entry
+ 1 year of experience managing referrals in healthcare setting
+ Valid Florida driver’s license or able to get one within 30 days of hire.
Preferred:
+ High School Diploma (or GED) or higher
+ Bilingual fluency (read, write, and speak) English/Spanish
