Purpose

The purpose of this position is to install, maintain and repair hi-pressure steam and condensate equipment on the university campus including pressure reducing valves, block valves, strainers, and traps as well as to work with plumbing distribution systems.

Job DescriptionInstall, maintain, and repair high-pressure steam and condensate equipment such as pressure reducing valves, traps, valves, piping, etc. Installation includes welding in accordance with ASME and AWS standards, or become proficient within one year. Maintain accuracy in all phases of work performed.Accurately diagnose steam related problems and instruct support staff to proper solutions.Clean and maintain equipment and work areas as needed. Remove asbestos and non-asbestos gaskets, packing, etc. as needed, while abiding by all abatement safety rules and procedures as required. Obtain and maintain as Asbestos O&M Supervisor abatement license for use in removal of Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM) in accordance with all governing laws and regulations. Able to wear a respirator.Keep accurate computer and/or paper based records, such as equipment inventories, maintenance logs, estimates, outage requests, campus building plan sets, etc. Complete work orders using integrated work management system.Work in conjunction with other trades or crafts personnel in support of systems within the power plant, chilling stations, utility tunnels, or direct buried utilities.Perform other related functions as assigned. Perform work in accordance with normal trade practices to pass inspection for conformity to standards, quality and quantity by journey-level employees or supervisors. Attend staff meetings, safety training and meetings. Attend job-related training and complete assigned training modules. Training certification required within 18 months.Follow all University and UEM safety policies and procedures, take required safety training, and identify and report safety hazards to appropriate personnel. Perform work tasks in a safe manner, wear the proper personal protective equipment, and report near misses and incidents to appropriate personnel. Carry a UT-provided cell phone during work hours and on-call hours and respond to calls received. Drive a UT vehicle, and maintain an acceptable driving record as required by UT System Policy UTS157

Required QualificationsHigh school graduation or GED.Three years of experience in journey level steam fitting of utility distribution systems.  

Preferred QualificationsCommercial Drivers License (CDL); more than three years of direct job related steam experience; completion of Technical Courses in Spence Regulator Repairs; more than three years experience in university physical plant environment.Ability to operate backhoe, bobcat, and other shop related equipment.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.

Salary Range

$65,000
