Follows predetermined methods and procedures for starting, shutting down, and operating (80,000 lbs/hr) stationary package boilers using natural gas or fuel oil. Maintaining boiler water chemical balance by analytical methods and operating chemical pumping systems. Operates Reverse Osmosis water systems to provide the boilers with the required quantity and quality feed water. Interprets gauge and meter readings and makes necessary system changes to meet steam demand or other requirements. Reports abnormal operating conditions to immediate supervisor. Takes immediate action in an emergency situation and is responsible for steam plant operations during the off shifts. Performs other normal tasks within the steam plant as assigned by supervision. Assignments may include extended work periods wearing hearing protections as well as limited work at heights.

This position also requires above average communication skills. This position requires shift work and applicant must be able to work any shift.
In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., High School diploma, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. Preferred Job Requirements
Working knowledge of A.S.M.E. sage practices as related to operation of high-pressure boilers and equipment preferred. Previous Utility and/or Steam/Boiler experience is preferred. Mechanical training or experience in repair of steam plant equipment would be of value. Skill and knowledge of primary computer control systems is preferred as well as a working level of skill in using computers. Education in a technical discipline beyond secondary education is preferred.
