Steam Train Operator | Full Time Seasonal
Overview Operator fires up the boiler in the morning, runs the train during scheduled operating hours, and puts the locomotive into the engine house in a safe manner at the conclusion of operation. The operator maintains the Locomotive and Track as needed. GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: The position requires a reliable individual as the morning startup occurs before the majority of staffing arrives. Responsibilities ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Safely operating a Narrow Gauge Steam Train to transport guests between the two main base lodges. Being able to work with limited supervision and keep the train operating safely and consistently. RESPONSIBILITIES TO SAFETY: Protect the safety of self, co-workers, and Loon Mountain Resort guests at all times. Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor without delay. Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to immediate supervisor. Follow all company and department safety policies and procedures. Operate equipment in a safe manner that will not lead to injury of yourself or others. Drive in accordance with the law and Loon Mountain Resort policies. Qualifications Attention to detail and being able to learn the complicated art of running a steam boiler and keep it operating within safe operational parameters. Business levels, weather, wood properties all affect the firing of the boiler. Being able to operate the train under varying loads and frequency of trips. Guest interaction is a major part of the job. Steam trains generate a lot of questions. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: A high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. General mechanical skills a plus LANGUAGE SKILLS MATHEMATICAL SKILLS REASONING ABILITY
