Position Purpose
The Sterile Processing Educator will function in coordinating and facilitating the education and Quality Improvement (QI) programs for the various Sterile Processing departments throughout Renown.Additionally, this position will assist the Director in the ongoing revision and implementation of departmental policies and procedures, protocol development, protocol implementation, competency assessments and orientation to new personnel.The Sterile Processing Educator serves as a resource, educates, and instructs sterile processing technicians and other health care personnel on decontamination, assembly and sterilization of surgical instruments, scopes, and clinical practice.
Nature and Scope
This position has responsibility far exceeding that of all other non-leadership sterile processing positions. They act as a role model, resource and coach to the Sterile Processing Staff, physicians and ancillary departments. This position is expected to provide staff with the tools to effectively safely and efficiently reprocess medical instruments and scopes. This incumbent is responsible for training, proper documentation, and competencies of all Sterile Processing staff. In addition, they are responsible for keeping abreast of technological advances updates to standards (AAMI/AORN) in applicable areas and are well versed in appropriate applications.
The Sterile Processing Educator is responsible for ensuring that staff understand how to perform decontamination, transport, assembly, prep and pack and various sterilizations (Steam, Low Temp, plasma peroxide vapor).The incumbent will ensure that all staff are trained and competent to the above mentioned standards. In addition, they will ensure all staff have initial and annual competencies.
The Sterile Processing Educator will train and develop the following positions: Sterile Processing Technician, Supply Aides, and Sterile Processing Leads.

Education:
Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Bachelors degree in healthcare preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of two years in Sterile Processing Department. Prior experience and demonstrated ability in planning and conducting in-servicing education and training.
