Job SummaryThe Supervisor Sterile Processing Off Shift functions as a liaison between the Sterile Processing Department, Pack Room, Operating Room and House departments. The Supervisor is responsible for Sterile Processing Technicians and provides relief and on-call management coverage as indicated.

Job Responsibilities:
Supervises the work activities of the Sterile Processing Department on off shifts to include the sterile processing technicians and trainees. Interviews, hires, orients and trains staff. Evaluates performance and provides feedback. Makes personnel action recommendations (e.g. promotions, transfers, disciplinary, discharge)Will be assigned to a specific off shift but will be expected to cover PTO and may cover a different off shift as needed.Completes staffing schedules and assignments on a daily basis, and makes adjustments according to work load and staff availability, as directed by the Manager.Will oversee Loaned Trays to assure that they have arrived and go to decontamination for cleaning. Assure proper Inspection, packaging and Sterilization for Clean/Sterile and On Time delivery to meet surgery need.Performs rounds of all work areas, monitoring employees to ensure that work assignments are being completed, and serves as a resource person for employee questions and educational needs. Ensures timely and accurate instrument and case cart assembly, flow, and documentation.Functions as a liaison between Sterile Processing and Operating Room. Conducts daily rounds of the Operating Room suites.Assures timely and accurate sterilization and distribution of supplies and equipment to the Operating Room and house departments.Ensures interception of items needed for later cases.Ensures employee compliance to missing instrument procedure during tray assembly.Will provide Off shift leadership for CS-iQ (Instrument Tracking System and Workflow management)Provides input into operational and capital budget preparation and coordinates capital equipment repairs and service contracts. Makes equipment purchase recommendations.If assigned to 3rd shift, the Off shift Supervisor will be required to cover am case cart duties in the absence of leadership assigned to that function.If assigned to 3rd shift, the Off shift Supervisor will oversee weekly Biological Testing, Daily Darts and weekly Leak testing.Supervises Emergency Carts for appropriateness of supplies and adequate stock levels.Supervises handling of clean returns and restocking of sterile supplies in the pack room and Sterile Processing Departments.Maintains and monitors documentation logs.Ensures appropriate Housekeeping Department schedules and cleaning compliance for assigned areas.Supervises daily and monthly departmental cleaning of the SPD pack room.Ensures compliance to departmental SOP’S. Assists with SOP formation and revision. Monitors OSHA and JCAHO compliance.Provides input and assists with count sheet revisions.Coordinates the loaning and acquisition of equipment for operating room areas of responsibility.Attends and/or assists with departmental staff, management and committee meetings.Other duties as assigned.Follows Hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirements.Education:
High School education or GED required.Bachelor’s degree or actively pursuing preferred.Certifications:
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) - International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management OR Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) from Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution Required. International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management certification As CIS (Certified Instrument Specialist) or CHL (Certified Healthcare Leader) preferred.Complexity of Work:
Demonstrated computer skills with word processing and hospital computer networks.Strong communication problem-identification and problem-solving skills.Ability to promote customer satisfaction and to troubleshoot related issues.Ability to identify and follow through on quality issues.Ability to develop collaborative working relationships with members of the health care team.Membership in a Central Service organization is preferredWork Experience:
Three years of Sterile Processing experience required. Previous management experience in a supervisory role preferred.Demonstrated leadership ability.Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform duties while standing, sitting, stooping, and reaching for prolonged periods of time. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.Ability to lift and carry items weighing 25 pounds on a continual basis; ability to push, pull, and navigate carts weighing up to 100 pounds.Possible exposure to biological and chemical contamination.Manual dexterity sufficient to perform basic functions of position day to day instrument counting, sorting and assembly. Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.Must be able to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors to utilize color-coded systems used for instrument identification. All applicants will be required to be prescreened for color blindness by our Occupational Health Department.Personal Protective Equipment:
