The Sterile Processing Supervisor will provide and maintain effective leadership for the smooth operation of Sterile Processing, and assure the availability of processed reusable instrumentation and trays at all times. Assist and advise in daily operations of central processing.

Responsibilities

Performance Responsibilities:
Principal Accountabilities
 Assist staff in the daily tasks of decontamination, preparation and processing sterile trays, packs and other single instrumentation as appropriate.
 Monitor daily activities of techs engaged in sterile processing procedures and distribution of prepared items and linens.
 Monitor for completion of priority assignments.
 Provides weekly feedback to the Director on department concerns.
 Maintains accurate attendance and tardy records
 Perform Central Processing assignments or projects as assigned by the Director.
Daily Record Keeping & Control Logs
 Monitors control log entries for accuracy of testing and sterilization processes.
 Monitors and makes on the spot corrections as necessary to ensure proper techniques are practiced.
 Reports and records any malfunction of processing equipment.
Quality Assurance Program & Inservices
 Provides Quality Improvement measures and documentation.
 Assists with and conducts inservices as directed.
 Performs work performance audit activity and documentation as directed.
 Monitors staff compliance with uniform/dress code, health and hygiene practices keeping the Director informed of compliance.

Coordination & Rounds
 Attend daily shift change meetings on scheduled workdays
 Communicate daily with Surgery and other applicable departments concerning sterile items
 Ensure staff members interact with customers in a manner that demonstrates the Core Values
 Any patient or department incidents which have compromised patient care or the service of Central Processing are documented in Writing for the Director immediately.

 Ensure that members of the Sterile Processing Department are kept informed of current policies, procedures and concerns.
Maintain Clean & Efficient Work & Storage Areas
 Ensure areas comply with hospital safety standards and fire code
 Ensure that empty cartons are disposed of appropriately and timely.
 Identify hazardous situations to the Director
 Ensure work areas are kept clean, organized and passageways unobstructed
Prepares & Maintains Work Schedules & Attendance Records
 Prepares and posts work schedule one week prior to end of existing schedule.
 Maintains accurate attendance and tardy schedules.
 Takes appropriate action in the event of schedule deviations.
Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
 Attends all required safety education programs.
 Provides complete and accurate responses to safety questions.
 Operates assigned equipment and performs all procedures in a safe manner as instructed.
 Maintains work area and equipment in condition required by department standards.
 Demonstrates proper body mechanics in all functions.
Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens
 Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, procedures, and correct use of protective barrier equipment.
Expects the same of other team members.
 Ensures a safe environment by instituting appropriate control measures.
Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment
 Fosters a professional working environment by assuming a leadership role (not supervisory) for all staff.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS/ JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
 Completion a Supervision and Management Course preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE:
 1 Year of experience as a Sterile Processing Tech, preferably with supervisory background.


REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
 Central Processing Technician Certification (IAHCSMM or NICHSPDP)

 

OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE:
 Sufficient knowledge of and experience in all aspect of Sterile Processing.
 Effective verbal and written communication and administrative skills.
