Shift/Schedule Full time Evenings, 5 days X 8 hours

The Sterile Processing Tech Coordinator is accountable for the allocation and completion of assigned functions by staff in the department. This position will serve as a team mentor and ensure adequate staff coverage to complete the decontamination and assembly process to maintain availability of instruments, scopes and equipment to meet department needs.

\n

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

\n\nCoordinates sterilization schedules to meet the daily operating room (OR) needs. Coordinates staff workload to ensure the needs of the next business day instrument list are met and instruments are available for all surgical cases. Helps in training technician staff and the orientation process of new employees.\nCompletes sterilization, assembles and packages specialty instrument trays for procedures to ensure all instruments are clean, decontaminated and stocked to maintain a safe patient environment. Establishes and ensures the proper method of cleaning necessary for different types of instruments.\nCollects, reads and documents biological tests to ensure functionality of sterilizing equipment. Notifies appropriate staff of any problems related to biological test results.\nTroubleshoots departmental equipment, to include sterilizer, washer, printer, etc., and restores to normal function when possible. Coordinates equipment repairs by other departments, tracks status and provides reports as requested by supervisor.\nIdentifies instrumentation for replacement and repair and processes accordingly. Ensures consignment equipment is signed in and processed for use according to established department policy and procedures.\nIdentifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Recommends, implements and monitors results in help of the overall goals. Promotes adherence to applicable state and federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies.\n\n

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

\n\nDemonstrate thorough knowledge of the parameters required for sterilization.\nDemonstrate knowledge of the OR and surgery case load to establish necessary trays to carry out the day and plan in advance.\nHas thorough knowledge of decontamination and sterilization equipment and can establish proper functioning and complete trouble shooting tasks.\nDemonstrate knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the Instrument Processing area.\nDemonstrates ability to properly identify non-working or unsafe instruments and equipment and knows appropriate process for repair or disposal.\nDemonstrates expertise of the instrument consignment and loan process to carry out surgical case load and maintains appropriate accountability for instruments.\nAbility to teach, coach and mentor staff in a positive way.\n\n

QUALIFICATIONS

- EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent

- EXPERIENCE - 2 Years of Experience

- CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -
       Cer Board Sterile Prcng & Dist (CBSPD), Cert Reg Central Service Tech (CRCST), Cert Sterile Proc/Distr Tech (CSPDT), Cert Surgical Technologist (CST): Must have one of the following:
-- Certified Surgical Tech (CST) or
-- Certified Board Sterile Proc & Distr (CBSPD) or
-- Certified Sterile Proc/Distr Tech (CSPDT) or
-- Cert Reg Central Service Tech (CRCST).
