Sterile Processing Tech - part time

Position Summary: The Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (SPD) is responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing and sterilization of supplies and equipment dispensed by the department following established infection control practices. Works under a combination of direct and indirect supervision by the Manager or Designee. The Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician must be conscientious with regard to procedures and capable of working under pressure and interacting professionally with other departments within the institution, as well as outside sources with which they may have dealings. Must be able to accept new ideas and learn new position duties. Must become certified through the Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) within the first year of employment. When test is passed, will be promoted to position of Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT). Essential Duties: + Demonstrates knowledge and awareness of sterilization processes including high-level disinfection and low-level disinfection. + Loads, operates and cleans all sterilizers. + Ensures proper operation of all equipment on a daily basis. + Maintains appropriate biological and chemical control tests, as required by the department, and documents results accurately in the appropriate log. + Uses knowledge of sterilization principles to correctly wrap or package items for sterilization and processes. + Inspects instruments for proper functioning and completeness. + Assures that instrument trays are assembled according to the count sheet and instruments are counted, clean and in proper working condition. + Demonstrates knowledge regarding handling and care of basic equipment, instruments and trays. + Demonstrates knowledge of infection control and understanding of standard precautions. + Cleans and inspects patient care equipment for proper function. + Stores all equipment and supplies appropriately within the SPD department. + Demonstrates complete understanding of all procedures for cleaning all flexible scopes used by the Operating Room. + Demonstrates knowledge and awareness of storage and rotation of sterile supplies. Restocks and replenishes supplies as necessary. + Available for assignment to additional duties within scope of training. + Accesses departmental Email on a daily basis. Education and Experience: + High school graduate or equivalent. + Certification within one year of employment. + Part Time schedule requires the candidate to have at least 6 months experience as an SPD Tech Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: + Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. + Knowledge of all general/basic instrumentation, equipment and supplies. + Knowledge of the principles of infection control and sterilization. + Basic computer skills. + Ability to engage patients and team members utilizing the CMH Experience Standards + I am creating a warming, caring, and non-judgmental environment + I am actively listening and seeking information + I am honest, truthful, and consistent + I am respectful, treating all individuals with dignity and empathy + I am serving as a role model, taking both initiative and ownership when appropriate + I am working collaboratively and demonstrating teamwork + I am resilient and adapt to change in positive ways. + Demonstrates ability to direct and triage in a highly fluid dynamic operational environment. + Ability to collaborate with all layers of the management/ administration team.
