Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician

Job Description

Under general supervision, the Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for cleaning, decontamination, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation and reusable supply items. The technician coordinates and prepares necessary supplies and instruments for both emergent and routine surgical cases.

ResponsibilitiesAssemble and wrap instrument sets.Ensure proper use of sterilized sonic cleaners and other related equipment.Retrieve and deliver surgical instruments on a timely basis.Thoroughly inspect instruments to ensure all instruments are clean and in good repair/working order prior to the sterilization process.Decontaminate instruments using proper chemical mixtures and procedures.Participate in the routine cleaning and decontamination of all department work surfaces.Complete sterilization log sheets.Periodically check sterile inventory to remove items where sterilization has expired or packaging has been compromised.Re-sterilize compromised instrument sets.Identify and notify appropriate personnel of inventory or supply shortages.Perform tasks necessary to prepare and maintain accurate Case Carts.Pull needed supplies and instruments for cases.Practice good inventory control techniques by following FIFO (first in, first out) practice.Essential SkillsKnowledge of maintenance and sterilization of medical supplies and equipment.Knowledge of applicable sanitation and hygiene standards.Knowledge of proper safety practices of steam and gas plasma sterilization.Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.Effective customer service skills.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.Good computer skills.Ability to work effectively under pressure.Additional Skills & Qualifications1+ year of sterile experience.Experience working in a medical facility.Cardiology experience.Strong written, typing, and verbal communication skills.Medical terminology knowledge.Work Environment

The work environment is fast-paced, with a schedule of Monday through Friday that includes on-call hours and potential overtime. The position requires adherence to safety standards and proper use of sterilization equipment. The technician must practice good inventory control techniques and be prepared to handle the demands of a dynamic and busy medical facility.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00
