Sterile Processing Technician

The Sterile Processing Technician sterilizes medical equipment and instruments in order to comply with safety standards and provide quality patient care. This role also supports ensuring that decontamination procedures follow appropriate policies, that any sterilization malfunctions are reported effectively, and that any instruments found to be defective or broken are removed.
Decontaminates, reassembles and sterilizes instrumentation according to standard work, guidelines, policies and procedures.
Inspects and assembles instruments to ensure patient safety and in accordance to sterilization requirements.
Removes instruments found to be defective, broken or missing components.
Uses standard precautions in handling contaminated items or instruments and applies hazardous waste policies as needed.
Interprets and records results of sterilization with every cycle completely and accurately to ensure compliance with safety procedures.
Helps perform chemical, biological, and mechanical tests, reporting any positive results or sterilization malfunctions to appropriate leadership in a timely manner to ensure a proper resolution.
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
