CVP is seeking Sterile Processing Technicians to join our team in providing essential healthcare support services for the Eastern Colorado Health Care System (ECHCS) at Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center (RMR VAMC) in Aurora located at 1700 North Welling Street, Aurora, CO 80045-7211. Location: Rocky Mountain Regional (RMR) VA Medical Center 1700 N. Wheeling St Aurora, CO 80045.
Contract Period Base Year: March 15, 2025 start – March 14, 2026 (Contract duration up to 5 years with four additional option years through March 14, 2030).
Work Schedule: Full-time, 8-hour shifts with a 30-minute lunch break and 15-minute breaks every 4 hours. Rotating shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Occasional overtime may be required.
W2 Hourly Rate Range: $17.20/hour - $24.87/hour (plus $1,430.83/weekly per diem).
Responsibilities1. Decontamination Area:
Transport contaminated reusable medical equipment (RME) to the decontamination area.Sort and decontaminate RME according to manufacturer's instructions and facility procedures.Disassemble, clean, and disinfect critical, semi-critical, and non-critical RME.Operate and troubleshoot decontamination equipment.Perform visual inspections to ensure cleanliness of RME.Perform and document quality assurance checks for reprocessing equipment as well as RME.Accomplish the inspection, assembly, packaging, and terminal sterilization or HLD of all RME and flexible endoscopes throughout the medical facility and CBOCs.Perform all functions for reprocessing of flexible endoscopes, including operation of an endoscope preprocessor.2. Preparation Area:
Inspect, assemble, and package wide variety of surgical and dental instruments.Determine correct sterilization methods for various equipment.Operate and troubleshoot sterilization equipment.Perform quality assurance testing and documentation.Properly store and deliver equipment to end users.3. High-Level Disinfection (HLD) Area:
Process items for HLD following manufacturer's instructions, including inspection, transportation, and storing.Perform all HLD functions, including documentation and quality assurance.Safely load and operate automated endoscope reprocessors and other HLD equipment.Maintain proper chemical levels.4. Case Carts/Sterile Storage Area:
Prepare case carts for operating room procedures.Maintain appropriate inventory in sterile/clean areas.Rotate stock as needed. QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of two (2) years recent Sterile Processing Technician experience.
Knowledge of aseptic principles, sterilization techniques, complex surgical instruments, equipment, and infection control practices.
Ability to interpret technical material, regulations, and instructions.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.Strong communication skills (oral and written) and teamwork skills.
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.Willingness to work in various environmental conditions (hot, cold, drafty areas).Candidates must be able to pass a government background check. U.S. citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification in Sterile Processing (CRCST, CIS, or CHL) from a recognized organization such as the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA, formerly IAHCSMM) or the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).Experience in a VA or large hospital setting.All candidates must be able to:
Sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift.Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist.Lift up to 20 lbs.Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.Push/pull with 30 lbs of force.
