Stop Loss Director-SelectHealth

Job Description:

Leads the development and management of Select Health’s Stop Loss product with primary responsibility for strategic planning, business development, growth, underwriting, financial performance, and operational effectiveness. Directs and executes all components of new and existing stop loss business in relation to level and self-funding arrangements. Collaborates with business teams across various functional areas (underwriting, marketing, claims, information systems, operations, etc.) to achieve goals and meet the organizational mission.

Leads the growth and execution strategy for Select Health’s Stop Loss offering across all states and market regions, capitalizing on product development, sales, and promotion opportunities.Leads the development and oversight of underwriting guideline development for level funding arrangements.In coordination with the AVP of Underwriting, insures Stop Loss product serves as a successful reinsurance mechanism for self-funded groups. Strategizes with existing or potential reinsurance partners and external stop loss carriers to ensure effective and competitive pricing. Maintains partnership relationships and serves as the primary point of contact for relationship.Ensures positive program performance and financial outcomes by adhering to operating budgets and projections. Takes a lateral view across the organization, understanding the organizational and external market complexities, and identifies necessary initiatives and interdependencies that must be coordinated to reach program objectives. Directs and guides project and product managers and department leads to ensure proper coordination and alignment of resources. Develops and monitors key performance indicators.Ensures program is positioned to meet Select Health membership growth goals and NOI targets as a potential source of revenue to offset ASO/TPA administrative costs.Develops, manages, and implements strategic product initiatives that address market needs and achieve overall business objectives including feasibility analysis and business case; recommendation for the new product or opportunity; business plan, including a pro forma and financial projections; sales forecasts; operational assessment; marketing plan; and a high-level implementation plan.Monitors national carrier and local competitor products, positioning, and strategies, as well as local and national industry trends.Develops affiliations and partnerships as necessary for new product and/or service opportunities. Reviews contracts, SLAs, etc., to ensure appropriate execution of such by Select Health and contracted entities.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree or 10 years’ experience in a progressively responsible leadership position within the healthcare industry with profit and loss, underwriting, and product development experience.Demonstrated experience understanding and managing complex issues by utilizing advanced strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.Demonstrated track record of executive or management level high-performance leadership and development.Demonstrated experience with reinsurance (stop loss/self-funded/captive market), health care, health insurance, managed care, employee health benefits management or self-insured plan administration experience.Demonstrated understanding of actuarial pricing models, underwriting practices, risk management/mitigation/avoidance strategies, adverse selection, the full continuum of provider payment arrangements, multi-channel insurance product distribution, and the impacts of these on product marketability and performance.Demonstrated experience related to the assigned products (e.g., product development, product management, project management, service line management, network development, strategic planning, marketing, and/or business development) including competitive marketplace practices and analysis.Experience driving organic growth through product and product initiatives, with an ability to recognize growth opportunities in the revenue streams. Deep understanding of insurance product analytics, its levers, and the consumer behaviors needed to develop a strong performing product.Strong analytical, critical thinking, negotiating, and presentation skills.Collaborative approach, in particular with Underwriting, enabling successful team approach.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, clinical field, public health, or related field.

Physical Requirements:

This is an exempt, full-time position. Pay offers are determined by prior years of relevant experience within the established pay range. In addition to the annual salary, to show our commitment to you and assist with your transition into our organization, we may offer a sign-on and relocation bonus when applicable. With this position, you are eligible to participate in the Annual Pay for Performance (AP4P) Plan. This plan enables Intermountain Health to provide leaders with an additional performance compensation opportunity. The AP4P award opportunities are calculated as a percentage of your base salary. Awards are paid out based on attainment of selected Board-approved goals.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$57.75 - $89.14
