GEICO is looking for an experienced legal professional with background to support commercial transactions and provide legal guidance for GEICO’s insurance distribution. Your role will be to support the business as it develops and executes novel and cutting-edge ways of distributing insurance. You’ll do this by building a strong relationship with GEICO’s sales and distribution teams to understand their goals and plans, then collaborating to provide legal advice on how they plan on achieving their objectives using language appropriate for smart businesspeople who don’t have a legal background. As you see where your clients are headed, you’ll also advise them on future risks and opportunities. When your clients need specialized legal expertise, you’ll coordinate with your colleagues in the legal department who have specialized skills to make sure your clients get the support they need to excel.
Primary Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, understand all key business objectives and means of accomplishing them for distribution of insurance through third parties, ensuring compliance with applicable insurance regulations while driving toward business successServe as lead attorney for one of the distribution teams and anticipate future legal needsCollaborate with the contracts team to manage the negotiation and drafting of relevant commercial agreementsProvide legal guidance on marketing materials related to third-party distribution of insurance and the specifics of how GEICO’s products are soldCoordinate support for assigned business units from other parts of the legal departmentUse wide range of legal knowledge to issue and spot any implications of business choice that could interact with multiple legal subject areas such as privacy, insurance compliance, consumer-protection laws, intellectual property, and contractual obligationsBasic Qualifications:
Must have at least 8 years of experience at a law firm or in-house and preferably 6 years specifically legally advising on insurance, E-commerce, or sales of regulated products and on commercial agreements in the area of strategic partnershipsMust have a law degree and an active law license to practice in the United States of AmericaStrong listening and communication skillsAbility to quickly digest and understand business plans, processes, and proceduresAbility to provide legal advice with incomplete informationSuperb judgement about legal and legal-adjacent risks as well as mitigation opportunitiesMust be solution orientedMust have demonstrated experience solving business problems and advancing business metricsPreferred Qualifications:
Experience drafting and negotiating partner-type agreementsProven success working on novel and emerging issuesStrong interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with both internal clients and external business partnersAbility to identify opportunities for enhancements or improvements and assist in implementation of creative solutionsLocation: Hybrid – This position requires the individual to work 2-3 days onsite at our Chevy Chase, MD, [Cleveland, OH], or New York, NY location

Annual Salary
$135,300.00 - $260,350.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
