Strategic Product Planner Energy Storage Systems

Volvo Group refers to the coming decades as the “Opportunity of a Lifetime”. The commitment to challenging reduction of green-house gases towards 0% in 2040 also represents great new business opportunities, and in all fairness some pitfalls to be avoided. To contribute to setting the direction for this journey can be your opportunity of a lifetime too!

Who are we?
At Strategic Product Planning, we work with the Volvo Group products from a global and strategic perspective and through our industry knowledge we apply a holistic approach towards a visionary Product and Service offer. Our team is brave and inclusive, and we are passionate about inspiring the organization towards the future.

Electric Solutions is a function within Strategic Product Planning. We are global in nature and support Strategic Product Planning and Volvo Group Trucks Technology with Product Plans and strategies focusing on Zero Emission Vehicles. Needless to say, this area is of high importance for a successful journey towards 100% fossil free in 2040.

The Position
Volvo Group is deeply committed to and engaged in the global roll out of electric vehicles and has already taken a leading position. This means that the number of customer applications are constantly increasing and along with it the size and significance of the battery business. Coordination and optimization become strategically important.

Always with a focus on what’s best for our customers, the truck owners, your role is to secure the best possible truck attributes. These attributes are linked to electric vehicles and include factors such as payload, range, drivability, retardation, and agility. You must balance these with battery attributes, which encompass cell technologies, battery architectures, software functions, and cost. Additionally, you need to consider constraints like regional boundaries, cell capacity, and the R&D budget. All of this is essential to secure the best possible battery system for the application that the truck will serve.

This is a job where you will have many interactions and build a wide network to secure the best Battery Product Plan for Volvo Group. You will need to interact with many stakeholders and not only for Trucks but also with our other Business Areas (Construction Equipment, Buses, and Penta).

Obviously, a lot of time you will spend with our engineering community on both battery component side and vehicle engineering to explain, support and iterate the requirements and targets we have set on our products and balance them with the constraints we have.

Clear deliverables;
•    Develop and lead the battery product plan evolution steps for the Volvo Group
•    Define the phase in/out of the various battery evolution steps
•    Supporting the long-term volume forecasts for the battery variants
•    You will also initiate and lead investigations crucial for the above items
•    Write prerequisites for coming battery projects, and support the project when applicable
•    Iterate and balance requirements with technology solutions and other constraints

You should be prepared to present your results at all levels of the company. This is a Product Planning job with a high degree of complexity and fast pace.

Who are you?
You should be capable of grasping the complexity of the subject and transforming it to clear actionable directions. Therefore, traits as being analytical and structured as well as being an effective and inspiring communicator are important.
Experience in truck business is essential and will be valued high, and if it also can be combined with experience in battery technology and high-voltage electrical distribution systems will be even better.

A personality that takes initiatives and inspire others to manage the future unknowns, meaning you will not have a ready recipe but will create one that you believe in and push for.

It is an extrovert role where you need to exhibit excellent networking skills. You always strive to be fact-based, however when managing future uncertainties, you must also have the courage at some point to put the stick in the ground and be decisive. You have a can-do attitude and are always prepared to push the targets to secure products in the technology forefront.
You do not have direct reports on your own, but you are nevertheless in a leading position, expected to strongly influence on our future.

You hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree education.

It is taken for granted that you live and share the Volvo Group Values and take inspiration from the Mission – “Driving prosperity through transport solutions”.

The daily working language is English both written and spoken.

Your home-office is in Gothenburg, Sweden. The role includes occasional travelling. Last application date 28th of February.
