JMT’s Allentown PA Office is growing and seeks a motivated individual who desires increasing responsibilities across a variety of bridge and transportation structure projects at the local, state, and federal level.   The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting professional engineers primarily with the design of bridges and miscellaneous highway structures for transportation projects of varying complexity in accordance with AASHTO, PennDOT, PA Turnpike, and other transportation client specifications; preparing and checking plans prepared by others for conformance with specifications and standards; designing and detailing structural components; preparing construction cost estimates and specifications; and reviewing shop drawings.  In addition, the successful candidate will perform existing condition assessments and inspections of bridge and transportation structures in support of developing reports and repair and rehabilitation recommendations.  A valid driver’s license is required.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Perform engineering tasks in the structural engineering field through the application of relevant design codes, standards, and design-oriented computer programs Perform general civil/structural engineering tasks to support various project managers, as required Perform design computations Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools Develop construction cost estimates Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications and estimates Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality standards Participate in plan and shop drawing reviews Draft plans using MicroStation or AutoCAD Assist in the field performing bridge and structure inspections Write and review bridge inspection reports
