Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Civil/Structural/Architectural Designer to perform civil, structural, and architectural design duties as stand-alone projects or as a project lead on multi-disciplined projects.
ResponsibilitiesSet up initial project constraints, develop and coordinate project standard border templates, and ensure drawings and designs adhere to company production and design standards.Perform field work and gather project information, including researching existing drawings and vendor equipment specifications.Oversee the development of project drawings and maintain a drawing log.Track and maintain project schedules, budgets, and resources.Understand the full scope of work and identify out-of-scope activities for project management of change.Coordinate between engineering disciplines to ensure project success.Ensure accuracy and completeness of all deliverable products and services within assigned responsibilities.Manage document controls within the PDiWorx document control software.Perform construction period services, including reviewing shop fabrication drawings, vendor submittals, answering RFIs from contractors, and performing on-site inspections.Conduct project closeout activities, including organizing and cleaning up electronic files and recording and communicating lessons learned to the CSA department.Keep the project engineer and lead CSA engineer informed of workload and any changes in project scope or additional services.Essential Skills10+ years of heavy industrial experienceProficient understanding of AutoCAD 3D Design with working knowledge of Revit, Advance Steel, and RISA 3DBasic understanding of design codes such as IBC, ASCE 7, OSHA, ACI, and AISCUnderstanding of IBC regarding building egress, stairs and ramp construction, building construction types, occupancy, and fire protection elementsProficient understanding and detailing of basic civil and structural material specifications such as foundations, concrete, and steelBasic understanding of structural stability requirements, including load distribution and load pathAbility to make basic calculations using engineering formulas for design elements like foundations, grating, wall and roof panels, mezzanines, and pipe bridgesBasic knowledge of civil design, including topographic surveys, erosion and sediment control measures, stormwater management, staking and site layout, and underground utility plansAdditional Skills & QualificationsAbility to coordinate between engineering disciplinesExperience with document control software, preferably PDiWorxProficient in developing and maintaining project schedules and budgetsExcellent communication and organizational skillsExperience in performing construction period services and project closeout activitiesWork Environment
You will work in a small, highly collaborative team that includes one Department Manager (PE), one senior engineer (PE), two engineers (both PEs), and one senior structural designer. This is an in-office position located in Midlothian, VA near Interstate 288 and Route 360. You will work closely with the mechanical, process, and electrical teams, contributing to a family-oriented culture in a private, family-owned heavy industrial engineering and design consulting firm.
