Job Description:
Summary:
Barr is seeking a structural engineer to join its Salt Lake City, Utah, team. The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams providing structural engineering and related technical expertise, primarily on projects for industrial, power, manufacturing, refinery, and mining clients. Primary responsibilities will include design and analysis, project management, preparation of plans and specifications, report writing, cost estimating, site inspections, and minor construction observation. The work may require short-term, out-of-town assignments. As markets fluctuate, opportunities may also include working on renewable projects such as wind turbine foundation design and industrial processing facility projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in structural engineering or civil engineering with a structural emphasis (including structural analysis and steel and concrete design)
5 years of related work experience
Professional engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain PE license within one year
Work experience with AutoCAD or Revit and structural engineering analysis software such as RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, or MathCAD
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients
Strong technical and problem-solving skills
Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
Interest in leading and mentoring entry-level engineers
A flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs
Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future
Possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
7 years of related work experience
Experience within industrial or heavy commercial industries
Master's degree in structural engineering or civil engineering with a structural emphasis
Experience with 3D software such as Revit
Experience in the consulting industry
Experience leading and mentoring entry level engineers
Strong technical skills in a wide range of structural analysis and design
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with multidisciplinary teams
Demonstrated project organization and management skills
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Salt Lake City, Utah, office.
Compensation:
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $92,700 - $105,000/year. This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. Barr has a “no retained earnings” model and distributes all its profit to our employees through our bonus plan and ESOP.

Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities.
