Structural Engineer

The successful candidate will join the Engineering Directorate to support the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering Contract (CMOE) located at NASA Langley Research Center. This position reports directly to the Architectural/Structural Engineering supervisor. All work will be performed with a high standard of quality and professionalism.  All safety policies and procedures must be followed.

Responsibilities      

An exciting opportunity for a talented structural engineer to provide operations and maintenance support at NASA

Langley Research Center. The successful candidate must have the ability to work as part of multi-discipline project teams

and interact with clients in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.

Independently perform structural and civil engineering assignments Experience with creating design packages Prepare studies, reports, design reviews, design specifications and construction cost estimates Demonstrate working knowledge of the latest ACI, AISC, AWS and ASCE codes Perform engineering analysis of structural systems and components constructed of steel, concrete, masonry and aluminum elements Experience using Revit Building Information Modeling (BIM) software and BIM project execution is desirable Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and written *

Qualifications

U.S. Citizenship required. BS degree in engineering from an ABET accredited university or college and three (3) to five (5) years related engineering experience, or MS degree and two (2) to three (3) years of related engineering experience, or Ph.D. Professional Engineer (PE) License is preferred. Successful candidate without PE must obtain it within 2 years.

Work Environment

Office Environment (80%) Test/Industrial Operations (5%) – May be exposed to high noise levels, safety hazards, hazardous materials, and chemicals. Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions. Travel between facilities and test operations may bring exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment operation (20%)

Physical Requirements

Must have sufficient mobility to enter all areas of test facilities. Must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods (100%) as well as lift up to 35 lbs.

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, copier, etc.) (10%) Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook (30%) Experience with Revit, AutoCad, FEA (30%) Safety and Personal Protective Equipment (20%)

Attendance

Overtime/work outside normal schedule required (20%) Travel required (<5%)

Other Essential Functions

U.S. Citizenship required.  A valid driver’s license is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance. Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety/risk hazard to the employee or others. The work environment requires the ability to cooperate and work with individuals at all levels of the company and the client. Safe Plan of Action (SPA) is a Company provided tool to be used for the prevention of incidents, accidents, and injuries; as such, it is the most important tool that you are required to use.  *
