ResponsibilitiesConceptualize, analyze, and design various vertical construction projects including buildings, airports, hangars, industrial structures, baggage handling system structures, parking structures and ancillary structures and various horizontal construction projects including port and marine structures, heavy civil structures such as levees, dikes, swing gates, etc., using various materials of construction including steel, concrete, masonry, heavy timber, precast concrete, cold formed metal and prefabricated steel; perform site visits at various facilities including buildings and ancillary structures, port and marine facilities, and heavy civil structures for data collection, measurements, verifications, visual observations, and forensic investigations; perform facilities condition assessments, field investigations and diagnostic surveys; establish design criteria, field testing requirements, laboratory testing and special inspection requirements; write technical reports with assignment of load rating(s) to the existing structure for single or multiple loading conditions; assign load rating that need to be supported by documentation of field investigations and testing, review of available information pertaining to the existing structure, design criteria/basis, applicable building codes, engineering analysis and engineering calculations; produce construction documents including drawings, specifications and technical reports; assist with managing projects, starting with development of the initial project design concept, development of a project plan including identification of staffing requirements and preparation of project schedule, and team coordination; support the execution of project design and culminate with management of bid and construction phase engineering services; coordinate the work of engineers, designers/draft persons and sub-consultants throughout the project’s execution; involve in marketing, contractual development, and design implementation; assist with managing financial aspects of assigned engineering projects; coordinate and adjust work efforts within the project team to ensure project work is completed on schedule and within allocated budget; use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents; responsible for project team quality system tasks as defined in the Quality Assurance / Quality Control guidelines; visit construction site to monitor progress and other duties per the contract documents; prepare project standards, basis of design, and load plans for gravity loads, lateral loads, and serviceability; develop detailed loading plans for gravity load, wind load including partially enclosed buildings with FM global standards, snow drift, and special functional loads including wide body aircraft wheel loads and mission critical such as Baggage Handling System; perform analysis and design of various gravity and lateral structural systems for steel, concrete, masonry, and cold formed metal framing structures and prepare detailed engineering reports; analyze and design exterior cladding systems for building facades and building envelop support systems; manage construction administration work including reviewing shop drawings, preparing responses to Requests for Information, and performing periodical field coordination, observations, and investigations; analyze existing structures to determine capacity and performance characteristics to facilitate new code requirement upgrades and subsequently provide a recommendation for remedial work; perform three-dimensional analysis and design of various structures under gravity and lateral loads using SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, Staad Pro, RISA 3D, RAM Structural System, RAM Concept, Enercalc, RISA Base, ADAPT PT, ADAPT RC, FB-MultiPier, RAM SBeam, Intellibeam, SpWall, etc. develop typical and unique structural details as part of the drawing production tasks using BlueBeam software; BIM 360 (Building Information Modeling) coordination of the Revit model across structural, architectural, MEP, and disciplines using NavisWork software to simplify the design process and avoid any potential field errors and rework; put together the entire project package with development of documentation including narratives, drawings, specifications, calculations, and design reports; prepare comprehensive written and oral reports of technical problems, investigative findings, and engineering recommendations using a Latex software; perform interoperability integration between BIM models and engineering models using tools and software including Revit, AutoCad, Rhino, Matlab, C++, Grasshopper, Dynamo, and VBA; perform static and dynamic finite element analysis of different types of materials for various structural elements to understand the behavior under specific loadings.
