Structural Mechanic II

Position Purpose:

The Structural Mechanic II performs a variety of structural assembly operations in a team-oriented work environment. Under minimal supervision, the Structural Mechanic I will complete work following established operating procedures, ensuring all tasks align with company design specifications and quality standards. The work must meet customer expectations, and the individual will be responsible for the assembly, fitting, and repair of aircraft structures.

Key Responsibilities:Essential Functions:

Structural Assembly and Fitting:

Safely perform assembly and fitting of detail parts and structures, including drilling and riveting operations.

Perform sheet metal layout, fabrication, and installation of parts, equipment, or fabricated items on aircraft.

Ensure that all assemblies meet design and quality specifications.

Riveting and Fastening:

Rivet structural assemblies and parts using tools such as portable riveting guns, pneumatic guns, pneumatic drills, countersinks, rivet shavers, files, and reamers.

Demonstrate the ability to remove fasteners without causing damage to the structure.

Blueprint and Document Interpretation:

Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, lofts, sketches, and operation sheets to determine sequence of operations, hole patterns, and material specifications.

Follow standard operating procedures when using adhesives, sealants, and solvents.

Quality Control:

Ensure that all work is defect-free and meets the required assembly standards before proceeding to final inspection.

Record Maintenance:

Maintain and accurately use logs and records, such as MIR sheets, DMTs, Crabs, and PCOs.

Alignment and Assembly:

Align and assemble parts to be riveted using jigs, holding fixtures, pins, clamps, and fasteners.

Shape and form complex angles and configurations according to blueprint specifications or verbal instructions.

Repairs and Rework:

Perform repairs and rework based on Discrepant Material Tags (DMT), Material Review Requests (MRR), and Production Change Orders (PCO).

Ensure rework meets quality and conformity standards.

Work Area Organization and Safety Compliance:

Maintain a clean and orderly work area in accordance with the company’s 5S program.

Comply with safety regulations and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Additional Functions:

Waste Management:

Properly collect and dispose of waste fuel, oil, hydraulic fluids, de-icing fluids, and solvent rags as required.

Job Charging:

Ensure accurate job charging to the appropriate aircraft on a daily basis.

Shift Coordination:

Exchange job-related information and coordinate work activities between shifts through turnover meetings and direct contact with leadership.

Equipment Maintenance:

Assist in maintaining shop equipment and support associated Job Safety Analysis (JSAs).

Lean Support:

Support Lean initiatives to enhance efficiency and continuous improvement within the team.

Other Duties:

Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisory personnel to support the overall aircraft assembly process.

Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience:

2 years of related structural assembly experience, preferably in aerospace or aviation.

Experience working with Solumina and Smarteam is preferred.

Skills:

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, lofts, sketches, and operation sheets.

Proficiency with basic shop math, including the ability to read scales and perform measurements.

Ability to work with composite resins and materials.

Basic computer skills.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Ability to climb ladders, stands, or stairs and work in confined spaces or restricted areas.

Ability to perform close tolerance work and work in small or challenging spaces.

Personal Skills:

Aptitude for hands-on craftwork and attention to detail.

Ability to work well with others in a team environment.

Professional attitude and the ability to meet demanding schedules.

Strong safety practices and organizational skills.

Work Environment:

Work is performed in a manufacturing or assembly environment.

Must adhere to all safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

May be required to work in small spaces, elevated positions, or confined areas.

Ability to work on multiple shifts, as required by production schedules.

Pay Details: $25.66 per hour
