Position Purpose:
In a team-oriented work environment, under minimal supervision, the Structural Mechanic II performs a variety of structural assembly operations in a production department following established operating procedures. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. Essential Functions:
Assembly and Fitting: Safely perform assembly and fitting of detail parts and structures, including various drilling and riveting operations. Ensure that parts and assemblies meet established specifications and requirements.
Sheetmetal Layout and Fabrication: Perform sheetmetal layout, fabrication, and installation of parts, equipment, or fabricated items on aircraft. Ensure precise and accurate work in all tasks.
Riveting and Fastening: Rivet structural assemblies and parts using required tools such as portable riveting guns, pneumatic drills, countersinks, rivet shavers, files, reamers, and rivets. Demonstrate the ability to remove fasteners without damaging the structure.
Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, lofts, sketches, and operation sheets to determine the sequence of operations, hole patterns, and material requirements. Follow standard operating procedures when using adhesives, sealants, and solvents.
Quality Assurance: Check all work to ensure defect-free assembly before final inspection and ensure that assemblies meet the required standards of conformity.
Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain and use all required logs and records, including Material Inspection Records (MIR), Discrepant Material Tags (DMT), Production Change Orders (PCO), and others as necessary.
Parts Assembly and Alignment: Align and assemble parts using jigs, holding fixtures, pins, clamps, and fasteners. Use proper tooling to shape and form complex angles and configurations according to blueprint specifications or verbal/written instructions.
Repairs and Rework: Make repairs as necessary per Discrepant Material Tags (DMT), Material Review Request (MRR), and Production Change Orders (PCO). Perform rework to ensure installations meet required standards of conformity.
Work Area Maintenance: Maintain a neat, clean, and orderly work area. Support the company’s 5S program and comply with all safety regulations. Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Additional Functions:
Waste Disposal: Properly collect and dispose of waste fuel, oil, hydraulic fluids, de-icing fluids, and solvent rags in accordance with environmental and safety protocols.
Job Charging: Ensure accurate daily job charging to the aircraft and report as required.
Shift Coordination: Exchange job-related information and coordinate work activities between shifts via turnover reports and direct communication with leadership.
Shop Equipment Maintenance: Assist in maintaining shop equipment and related Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
Lean Activities: Support Lean initiatives and continuous improvement activities within the department and organization.
Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by leadership or as required for the role.
Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of related structural assembly experience.
Experience working with Solumina and Smarteam software is preferred.
Skills and Knowledge:
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and technical drawings.
Basic computer skills and familiarity with shop math.
Ability to perform basic measurements using a scale and basic shop math calculations.
Experience with composite resins and materials preferred.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow procedures and maintain quality control.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet demanding schedules.
Must be able to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, working in small spaces or restricted areas, and climbing ladders/stands/stairs.
Additional Requirements:
Ability to work any shift as required by production schedules.
Ability to perform work in confined or restricted spaces, and work at heights using appropriate safety equipment.
Must demonstrate good housekeeping, safety practices, and attention to detail.
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Ability to work in tight spaces and at heights.
Must be able to stand, kneel, bend, or crouch for extended periods as needed for structural assembly tasks.
Pay Details: $25.66 per hour
