Job Description
Candidates will be welding on structural mild steel on trusses and steel stairs/railing. Need to be strong with thicker metals and full penetration. The thickest material would be 2 inches. It is all custom work, production welders don't work well here. 95% of the work is 5/16 single pass. Everything they weld is in position. No jigs, fixtures, or turn tables. Parts range from 5-6 ft to 60 ft. Dual shield flux core. .045 wire.
ResponsibilitiesWeld structural mild steel on trusses and steel stairs/railing.Perform custom work with no jigs, fixtures, or turn tables.Operate overhead crane.Perform plasma cutting on structural steel.Lift up to 70 lbs utilizing overhead crane.Conduct deep penetrating welds with MIG feed.Essential SkillsAbility to read and interpret blueprints and welding symbols.2-year technical degree or 2+ years of on-the-job experience with MIG and Flux Core on Mild Steel.Additional Skills & QualificationsFitting experience is a plus.Why Work Here?
Our Client is a family-owned and operated shop that services commercial building contractors. The role offers lots of overtime and the opportunity to gain knowledge in pipefitting skills. Employees will eventually learn to fully lay out, fit, and weld pipes. Welders and owners have the opportunity to get to know customers and the projects they are working on. The company likes to involve welders in customer interactions, allowing them to understand the projects better. The manager treats everyone right, offers bonuses based on production, and fosters a friendly and enjoyable work environment.
Work Environment
The work takes place in a large, dirtier shop environment. Employees will be required to wear welding helmets and steel-toed boots. The dress code includes jeans and a T-shirt or sweatshirt.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Maple Plain, Minnesota.
