Position Availability: Immediately Position Title: Student Advisor - BPATS Requisition Number: 0406072995 Location New York City Position Type: Student Department: SPE/Dean's Office Responsibilities: The Adult Bachelor’s Program is seeking an enthusiastic current New School doctoral (PhD program) student to join the team as a Student Advisor. The Student Advisor will serve to offer important additional academic and social support in the Adult Bachelor’s Program. The Student Advisor will report directly to the BPATS Director of Student Affairs and will support all aspects of the scholastic well-being of our students. Under the guidance of the Director, the Student Advisor will provide students a unique opportunity to work with someone who relates to their campus navigation pain points, questions, challenges and needs as the SA is currently a student as well.

The Student Advisor is responsible for advisement, connecting with students and providing administrative support in completing various complex assignments and confidential projects. As a part of a collaborative team designed to help students reach their academic goals and achieve success, the SA will develop an on-going professional relationship with new, continuing, visiting and CPE students across the program through targeted support initiatives.

Ø Throughout the academic year and during the summer— communicate with students via phone, email and face-to-face/Zoom meetings regarding academic concerns and the need for BPATS department support.Ø Assist students with general program policies and procedures as well as with utilizing online academic tools.Ø Respond to advisement requests and meet with students as necessary.Ø Provide students with information regarding resources, departments and support services on campus; make appropriate referrals as needed. Responsible for the BPATS Student Advisor Email.Ø Participate in New Student Orientation, Recognition Ceremony, webinars/workshops and other events throughout the year. Lead “Lunch and Learns” and host “Meet with the Student Advisor Hour!” and other SA led events.Ø Assist in developing and organizing creative events designed to engage new and continuing students.Ø Perform a variety of other administrative duties and/or special projects as assigned by the BPATS Director.

Hourly Rate: $20

Minimum Qualifications: Ø Overall GPA of 3.0 or above; Must be in good academic standing as a New School Doctoral student.Ø A student who has completed two semesters at The New School but is not set to graduate for at least a year.Ø Possess a natural inclination towards encouraging and motivating students and peers.Ø Ability to maintain confidentiality and cultivate trust.Ø Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ø Adept at working both independently and collaboratively on varying projects.Ø Must possess a professional, collegial, positive and service centered attitude.Ø Strong follow-through, time management, multi-tasking and organizational skills with the ability to problem solve.Ø Prior experience utilizing Zoom, Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google (Calendar, Video, Hangouts, Chat, Drive – Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms). Must have the ability to learn new systems as necessary.Ø Must be comfortable taking direction from a wide range of supervisory styles . Preferred Qualifications: Ø Highly creative and comfortable making presentations to moderate and large groups in person and virtually.Ø Experience with student advisement in a peer advisor, peer leader or peer ambassador role.Ø Experience in a professional administrative office environment. Higher education experience is a plus.Ø Experience leading administrative projects and providing administrative assistance.
