Job Summary
 

The Student Affairs Administrator for the English Department provides essential support to both graduate and undergraduate students by serving as a key administrative contact for the Director of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies. The position involves advising students on academic requirements, course selection, study abroad opportunities, and connecting them with appropriate departmental resources. Additionally, it plays a vital role in outreach and programming, helping to grow student enrollment by developing creative initiatives, managing social media promotions, organizing events, and fostering alumni engagement. The role also includes responsibilities related to curriculum management, such as coordinating course proposals, tracking enrollment, and assisting with graduate admissions and teaching assistant assignments.

Responsibilities

Provides administrative support for the Director of Undergraduate Studies and Director of Graduate Studies.Serves as a liaison between students and the Department, advising on program requirements, faculty advisor selection, course selection, study abroad; working with college advising office and Registrar; and making oneself available to student drop-ins as necessary. Manages curriculum planning process, soliciting faculty course proposals, analyzing departmental curricular needs, developing a map of course offerings, scheduling courses, promoting classes to students, tracking enrollment, and managing TA assignments.Assists with graduate admissions process.Brings creativity and energy to outreach efforts aimed at growing the number of undergraduate majors in the Department and making the Department a vibrant place to study. This includes developing new programming, social media promotions, alumni outreach, and event planning.Assists in event planning, organizing at least two undergraduate events per quarter (for example, open house, write-in, information session, end-of-year celebration); assisting with graduate student town hall meetings; and assisting with other departmental events.Uses general understanding and experience to administer the delivery of services to program participants and/or beneficiaries.Plans and conducts quality assurance reviews and recommends changes as appropriate.Interacts with faculty, researchers and staff for committee work or information.Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience:

At least two years office administration or management experience.Exposure to higher education work environment supporting faculty or students.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets and database programs.Write clearly and succinctly. Proofreading and editing skills.
