Through this community of healers, scientists, and scholars, Rutgers is equipped as never before to transform lives. Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a part time Student Assistant for the Child Health Institute at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. 

Under the direction of (PI), the Student Assistant(s) will be responsible for studying an animal model of intellectual disability (ID) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) using biochemical and molecular approaches. The project is part of a larger effort in the lab to discover how mutations in the CC2D1A gene cause ID and ASD. The RAs should have a broad (college-level) knowledge of genetics, molecular biology, and biochemistry and some research experience. Applicant(s) will be responsible for the performance and analysis of experiments under supervision of Dr. Manzini and lab members.  As part of their professional development to transition to the next phase of their career, the applicants(s) will be trained in improving their experimental design skills and their oral and written presentation skills. Multiple resources for career development to aid with these requirements will be provided by the PI and Rutgers University. 

Among the key duties of this position are the following: Assist in performing experiments related to cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and/or neuroscience.  Assist in maintaining laboratory instrumentation such as centrifuges, electrophoresis, and confocal microscopes.  Compile and analyze data with appropriate statistical analysis, conclusions, and future directions in support of further CHI research.  Adhere to established performance standards and coordination of experimental approaches in support of CHI research.  Keep clear and detailed records of the analyses performed in accordance with laboratory guidelines, maintain data in shared and readily accessible locations, present data to the PI and other lab members.  Assist the Principal Investigator with general lab maintenance duties, lab organization and supply ordering.  Position Status Part Time Hours Per Week 15-20 hours per week Daily Work Shift Day Work Arrangement This position requires a fully on-site work arrangement.
