Position Availability: Position Title: Student Assistant: Event Planning Assistant (FWS) Requisition Number: 0406073559 Location New York City Position Type: Student Department: CA/Student Success Responsibilities: University Commencement is seeking a Part-Time Student Employee to assist with the planning and execution of Family Weekend, University Commencement, and Countdown to Commencement events for graduating students.
Reporting to the Senior Director for Strategic Initiatives, the Event Planning Assistant must be able to take initiative, work both independently and collaboratively, exercise sound judgment, and demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

Provide administrative support for key university events, including Family Weekend, University Commencement, and other programs for graduating students. Staff pop-up information tables in the University Center. Assist in the organization of special projects including Commencement student speaker applications and interviews, the Cap and Gown Assistance Program, and other special projects that may arise. Provide event operations support including set-up, check-in, vendor coordination, and volunteer management.

Work Mode:
Hybrid/Split – This position requires a consistent combination of on-campus work (e.g., 1-4 days per week) and remote tasks.
Salary Range:
Pay rate: $18 per hour for 10-15 hours per week.

Minimum Qualifications:
Must be a current full-time student at The New School with an active Federal Work-Study award. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively. Proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and independently when needed. Proficiency in Google Suite Ability to maintain professionalism under pressure during high-profile events. The selected candidate must be available for the following events: Grad Fair: Wednesday, February 5th, 2025 (exceptions made for classes) University Commencement: Friday, May 16th, 2025

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in event planning, project management, or customer service. Familiarity with The New School’s campus and culture.
