Perseverance: maintaining an unwavering commitment to our mission; embracing change, overcoming obstacles, and creating and recreating the path to achieve our goals Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Student Assistant within the Behavioral Sciences Department at the Rutgers Cancer Institute.

The Student Assistant will work as a Peer Mentor in a Digital Self-Management and Peer Mentoring Intervention study. The Student Assistant will schedule and meet one-on-one with each of their assigned mentees weekly to guide them through the Managing Your Health intervention that is being tested in this study. The Student Assistant will also meet with the study staff for supervision after each call with their assigned mentees. When actively mentoring, the Student Assistant will be supervised by the study staff, who will offer guidance and problem-solve any challenges they may encounter with mentees.

Among the key duties for this position are the following:

Attends a Mentor training course conducted by the Study PI and completes online Human Subject Research training. Downloads the MYH app to their phone to get familiar with the content. Mentors childhood cancer survivors for a 6-week period each (usually assigned one at a time). When actively mentoring someone, the Student Assistant will: a. Complete an initial video conference or phone call with their mentee. b. Complete a video/phone call with their mentee once a week for the following 5 weeks. c. If the mentee agrees, the Student Assistant will audio record their conversations and send them to the research team via secure file transfer weekly. d. Complete a brief online log/survey about the weekly call -1x/week.  Acts as a role model for corporate integrity, customer service and improved quality.
