Position Information Position Information

Position Availability: CENTER DESCRIPTIONIn the world’s leading city of immigration, in a time of a troubling resurgence of anti-migrant action and rhetoric, in a University with a faculty and student body committed to social justice, the Zolberg Institute on Migration and Mobility supports critical and applied scholarship and provides opportunities for social action and policy engagement for faculty, students and the broader New School community. The Institute fosters concentric circles of scholarship and action—in our University, our city, and the world. We contribute to the University community by offering courses, sponsoring lectures and events, and supporting extended visits of leading scholars. We engage deeply with New York City, supporting student work with the wide range of groups and communities in the City. We undertake initiatives to inform and influence public debate and public policy at the national and global level.
ABOUT THE GLOBAL STRATEGIC LITIGATION COUNCILIn every region of the world, states violate core rights of refugees and other persons on the move. Lawyers and advocates are active in many countries, but their efforts tend to be isolated, producing ad hoc approaches to protecting refugee rights and minimal regional or global coordination. Recognizing this gap, the Global Strategic Litigation Council (‘the Council’) was founded in September 2021. At the Council, we use the power of people and the law to advance the rights of those displaced worldwide. We do this by uniting civil society and their efforts to empower migrants and refugees through strategic litigation and advocacy.
Since its launch, the Council has connected over 450 litigators, refugee leaders, academics, advocates and organizations, from every continent of the globe, and we have delivered justice to over 400,000 displaced people. The Council helps its members to connect and share knowledge, execute key litigation and legal advocacy strategies and build our member’s capacity to defend refugee and migrant rights through training and workshops .
