Student Assistant Specialist (Health Promotion Specialist)

Position Availability: Student Health Services’ Wellness and Health Promotion (SHS/WHP) is seeking a Health Promotion Specialist who will support health and wellness projects and initiatives for students at The New School. The candidate must be a New School student with Federal Work Study (FWS) as part of their financial aid packet for the academic year 2024-2025.  Position Title: Student Assistant Specialist (Health Promotion Specialist) Requisition Number: 0406073473 Location New York City Position Type: Student Department: Stdnt Srvcs/Enrollment Ops Responsibilities: Specific duties and responsibilities include:  Support wellness outreach, including staffing a weekly wellness table which will include providing ear acupressure (you will be trained), distributing herbal teas, essential oils and wellness resources. Maintain supplies of herbal tea blends and essential oils- including preparing and bottling the oil blends (you will be trained), keeping track of when new supplies need to be ordered and keeping all supplies stored neatly.  Keep the safer sex supplies in the SHS waiting room well stocked and inform WHP directors when storage supplies are running low. Assist with special projects and events related to the mission of Student Health Services Conduct and promote events throughout the university, which will include special events, workshops and training, tabling and flyering across the university. Some of the events may be in the evening and weekends Connect our messaging, projects and initiatives to have extended reach in residence hall communities.  This can include ensuring flyering is happening in the res halls, promoting ideas for special events in residence halls, encouraging peer to peer sharing of health information and other dialogue, engaging the healthy living communities, creating special bulletin boards and other messaging and special projects as appropriate.  Liaise with students as a student ambassador of Student Health Services. Option to develop special projects in your wellness area of interest Train as a Peer Health Advocate (PHA). There is a mandatory PHA training retreat during the Spring 2025 semester. Commit to approximately 4 hours/week of administrative office duties and perform other assignments as needed that support Student Health Services.


Hybrid/Split -This position requires a regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus and also works some of the time remotely. This will be coordinated with the supervisor.  This position requires both work on site at Student Health Services or at other locations on the university campus and independent work that can be done remotely. The final schedule will be determined with the supervisor and could be variable week by week, depending on the programs and services being offered.

Hourly Rate: $21 Minimum Qualifications: You must have strong commitments to student health, sex and body positivity, consent, anti-oppression frameworks and social justice and be able to articulate these clearly.  We seek candidates with a strong work ethic, the ability to take initiative, work independently, communicate clearly and meet deadlines. You must be organized and able to interact with students, staff, and faculty of diverse backgrounds.  Familiarity with Google docs and social media platforms.


Ability to adhere to University COVID-19 Policy. Work on site at Student Health Services, which is a requirement of this position, requires use of a surgical grade mask at all times.
