The purpose of the Student-Athlete Medical Insurance Technician position in the Department of Athletics at the University of North Dakota is to be responsible for all aspects of submission, payment and recordkeeping of medically related bills for student-athletes. The position will apply substantial knowledge of insurance programs, policies & procedures, and assess unprecedented problems requiring research and review. Position is also responsible for understanding and resolving insurance claims, disputes and investigations. Duties & Responsibilities Insurance administration & financial operations
Apply substantial knowledge of insurance programs, policies, and procedures. Analyze and resolve unprecedented problems that require research and review. Respond to in-depth questions and issues related to student-athlete insurance. Independently assess, understand, and resolve insurance claims, disputes and investigations on behalf of the student-athletes, athletic training staff, and Athletics Department. Process medical invoices in a timely fashion. Monitor student-athlete insurance verification and help with the process when applicable. Communication
Communicate professionally through both verbal and written communications with student-athletes, parents, athletic training staff, physical therapists, administrators, coaches, co-workers, Risk Management Office, Student Health Office and external constituencies (insurance companies and medical providers). Interpret guidelines, answer inquiries, and advise student-athletes, parents, coaches and others regarding insurance processes, services, forms and operations as applied to non-standard situations. Inform supervisor of any issues that may impact the department as a whole. Send periodic emails/newsletters to student-athletes and parents with updates and reminders throughout the academic year. Send welcome emails during the fall and spring semesters to new student-athletes and parents regarding medical bills and insurance processes. Attend individual team orientation meetings and present on medical billing & insurance processes, if applicable. Process & procedure development & implementation Responsible for the development of appropriate policies and procedures related to insurance operations necessary for the UND Athletic department to comply with internal and external rules and regulations. Facilitate and document memorandum of understandings on insurance processes in conjunction with the policies and procedures manual Responsible for communicating any policy or procedures concerns to supervisor and/or athletic department senior staff. Responsible for reviewing current practices and determining best practices for insurance operations. Facilitate individual meetings with sports programs to discuss medical and insurance information and processes. Provide assistance in other Athletic Business Office operations such as, but not limited to, purchasing card reallocations, scanning of documents to digital drives, and Jaggaer/UND Marketplace. Other duties as assigned by Senior Assistant Athletics Director, Business Operations or Senior Associate Athletics Director/CFO. Required Competencies Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills including active listening and critical thinking. Strong organizational skills. Detailed oriented. Ability to work independently and multitask. Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions including understanding medical practice terminology. Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information. Must have commitment to NCAA compliance and follow all NCAA, conference and UND rules and regulations. Must provide support and encouragement and ensure the safety and well-being of the student-athletes. Minimum Requirements Associate’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or a related field. One year of experience working directly with claims processing, coding, and billing and/or other insurance claims related duties. Microsoft Excel experience in a work environment. Valid Driver’s License. Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications Health insurance policy benefits interpretation. Medical terminology/coding experience. HIPAA training experience. University/college student health insurance experience.
