Student Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY: The Student Coordinator supports the Republic Services Technical Institute, a diesel technician training program. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating and providing student services for our training programs at the Dallas, Texas training facility. These services include ensuring the Tech Institute adheres to federal apprenticeship programs, such as Department of Labor and Veterans Affairs, and assisting employees with navigating the benefits of these programs and the apprenticeship requirements. In addition, the Student Coordinator supports training facilitation, event planning and scheduling, and act as a liaison during the hiring process for new and prospective trainees.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Coordinates with all new students to provide guidance with apprenticeship requirements and benefits. 

Ensures the Tech Institute adheres to Department of Labor (DOL) apprenticeship program requirements, including reporting on apprenticeship instruction and On The Job (OTJ) hours and completing DOL audits.

Coordinates the Veteran Affairs (VA) apprenticeship requirements, including determining eligibility, helping veterans apply, certifying attendance, and completing any reporting and documentation as required by the VA.

Serves as a liaison between employees, managers, senior leaders, Human Resources, and program stakeholders regarding apprenticeship requirements and activities.

Supports the event scheduling across the Tech Institute, managing requests to book events onsite and coordinating set up of events.

Prepares training classrooms with adequate supplies and training materials.  Facilitates training for apprentices with support of the Talent Development team.

Completes purchase orders and vendor invoices.  Assists with the ordering, control, and distribution of stationary, supplies, and PPE within the office.

Supports Tech Institute initiatives and retention strategies in conjunction with the Tech Institute Director and Training Program Manager.

Coordinates and provides transportation for apprentices to training facilities, business locations, and other essential venues, ensuring timely arrival and adherence to schedules. 

Performs other responsibilities and projects as assigned or apparent.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Effective verbal and written communication skills

Advanced presentation skills

High level of attention to detail and ability to work in a compliance-oriented environment.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.

Knowledge of federal apprenticeship programs, Department of Labor (DOL) and Veteran Affairs (VA), preferred. 

Ability to support large populations and manage relationships between diverse stakeholders. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

2 - 4 years of overall relevant working experience.

Experience in a learning, education, program management, or related role. 

Valid driver's license.

SUSTAINABILITY INNOVATION

Republic’s recent innovations to advance circularity and decarbonization demonstrate our unique ability to leverage sustainability as a platform for growth.

The Republic Services Polymer Center is the nation’s first integrated plastics recycling facility. This innovative site processes rigid plastics from our recycling centers, producing recycled materials that promote true bottle-to-bottle circularity. We also formed Blue Polymers, a joint venture with Ravago, to develop facilities that will further process plastic material from our Polymer Centers to help meet the growing demand for sustainable packaging. We are building a network of Polymer Centers and Blue Polymer facilities across North America.

We continue to advance decarbonization at our landfills. As demand for renewable energy continues to grow, we have 70 landfill gas-to-energy projects in operation and plan to expand our portfolio to 115 projects by 2028.
