About the Role
For our fast-growing business in new markets, commodities and services, we are currently looking for a smart, analytically skilled and communicative individual to join our Data Science team in Karlsruhe.
As a Student Data Scientist at ICIS you will be involved in a development project, modelling the European power markets and contribute significantly to our products. This will give you the opportunity to dive into the functioning of the electricity market, apply your knowledge in practice, and open new fields of expertise.
The internship as well as the master thesis focus on the application of the agent-based model ASSUME to the European Spot Power Market. The main goal is to set up a detailed European Spot Market model, applying high granular real data and analysing and forecasting the short-term behaviour of market agents.

The master thesis will be written at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in collaboration with the IISM chair. It requires a prior internship of at least three months at ICIS, where you will get the opportunity to familiarize with the model, deepen your skills, and to define your master topic in more detail for a successful thesis.
You will create automated routines for data pre- and post-processing in Python and analyze the model results. You will work with our experienced data science team to receive hands-on support and have discussions about your project, analysis and programming.

Obtaining in-depth knowledge of the European electricity market
Supporting the data science team in analysing and developing automated data routines
Analysing input data and model results and make suggestions for improvement
Key skillsInterest in electricity markets, market analysis and forecasting
High level of interest in learning new modelling techniques
Analytical mindset, critical thinking, and high engagement
Good communication skills in German and English
Experience in programming in e.g. Python, MATLAB, etc.
