Job Summary
The Student Development Specialist I, under direction, provides professional and supervisory assistance for the advisement, coordination and organization of student developmental programs, activities, and/or services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assists in the advising of a variety of student groups/organizations.
Counsels and advises students on personal and educational matters.
Acts as a referral resource for students
Helps to guide students in planning and scheduling social and budgetary procedures.
Prepares informational and educational publications.
Assists in maintenance of pertinent student and administrative records.
Coordinates and assists in planning in-service training programs.
Issues memoranda and prepares administrative reports.

Additional Responsibilities
Responsible for assisting with the design, implementation, and enhancement of programs and services that support the University's persistence services, with particular emphasis on transfer student involvement and engagement.
Provide cross-functional student support in the areas of student leadership and engagement.
Serve as an advocate for students.
Respond to phone, correspondence, and email inquiries from prospective and current students regarding orientation, involvement opportunities, and any other services needed/offered by SOLE.
Serve on division and campus-wide committees as needed.
Coordinate, plan, and implement co-curricular programs as a means of increasing student involvement through cultural awareness, school pride, and knowledge acquisition (i.e., Welcome Week, Involvement Week, etc).
Assist in data collection and entry into the Student Information System and other technology used by SOLE in order to track and report on student involvement and persistence.
Serve as a co-advisor to a University Organization as determined by the SOLE Office
Assist in providing cross-functional student support in the areas of new student orientation, transition, and involvement.
Respond to phone, correspondence, and email inquiries from prospective and current students and their family members regarding orientation, student involvement opportunities, and any other enrollment-transition/persistence services needed.
Minimum Requirements
Education – Bachelor's degree.
Experience – No experience required.
Preferred Education and Experience
Prior experience in student affairs or related specialty helpful.
Prior experience as a transfer student or working with transfer students.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
Word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Ability to:
Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Knowledge and Abilities
Student Development Theory.
Risk Management related to student organizations.
Licensing / Professional Certification – None.

Salary: $17.54/hourly
