No County Albany Street Address 99 Washington Ave City Albany State NY Zip Code 12231 Duties Description The Student Assistant for the Summer 2025 internship duties in Committee on Open Government will include but are not limited to the following: • Conduct telephone and computer research with and about agencies and public bodies that have responsibilities pursuant to the NYS open government laws, including the Freedom of Information and Open Meetings Laws.• Conduct telephone research concerning agencies and public bodies with interested industry groups and members of the public.• Research with focus on identifying trends concerning agency, public body and public:o Experience with open government laws.o Issues with compliance with these laws.o Difficulties and challenges with recent modifications to these laws.o Suggestions for improvements to these laws.• Interns will compile results of research and working with our staff, assist to formulate proposals for modifications to existing law for consideration by members of the committee when preparing the committee’s 2025 annual report to the NY Governor and Legislature due in December. Minimum Qualifications Minimum QualificationsCandidates must be currently enrolled as part-time or full-time undergraduate Sophomore to second year law students at an education institution accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the United States (U.S.) Department of Education/Secretary of Education.Please forward proof of enrollment in Summer/Fall 2025 Semester with your resume, cover letter and writing sample.Preferred Qualifications• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.• Good communication skills (phone, email, etc.). • Interest is the legislative process.• Critical thinking and writing.• Comfortable speaking with all demographics.
