The School of Engineering (SoE) and the School of Humanities and Sciences (H&S) Dean’s Offices are each seeking an experienced human resources professional with a labor relations background to serve as a Student Labor Relations Manager for the new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between Stanford University and the Stanford Graduate Workers Union (SGWU). As a cross-functional lead bridging the domains of student services and human resources, this position will play a pivotal role in establishing implementation strategies and tactical solutions across academic departments and programs, including interpretation of complex regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance, and partnering with departments to facilitate smooth adoption of the CBA. SoE and H&S collectively support thousands of graduate students throughout their research, education and work experiences. You will be part of a collaborative team, working alongside other human resources and student services professionals. Both positions are located on Stanford’s Main Campus in Palo Alto, and are eligible for hybrid work.
**In this role, you will** **:**
+ Serve as school lead/dean’s delegate for implementation of the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) across various academic departments and programs, including complex regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance, coordinating with HR and Student Services, and partnering with departments to ensure smooth adoption.
+ Triage informal complaints and formal grievances to ensure appropriate action and follow up in accordance with academic policies, graduate student funding requirements and the CBA.
+ Investigate basic and complex employee relations issues and initiate appropriate resolution; recommend and facilitate effective solutions in alignment with applicable policies and laws. Work in consultation with human resources director, employee/labor relations staff, and student services staff to resolve highly complex issues, as needed. Coach and advise staff on organizational, employee, and labor relations issues.
+ Partner as a school representative with central offices to conduct a thorough audit/review of current policies and practices related to graduate student employment to identify areas that need revision under the new CBA.
+ Collaborate with central offices and technology teams to develop templates and solutions for record management, and identify gaps in related processes.
+ Analyze data from grievances and other related activities to identify trends, such as recurring areas of non-compliance and develop recommendations for HR, Student Services, and/or departmental leaders
+ Act as primary liaison between the School, VPGE and UHR/ELR, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed about the union-related policies and procedures.
+ Develop and manage strategy for effective communication and collaboration between the School administration, other campus schools and units (e.g., VPGE/ELR), and SGWU.
+ Partner with key units such as VPGE, student services, and UHR/ELR to address training needs.
+ May direct and/or supervise staff.
+ Other duties as assigned.
**Education & Experience (Required)** **:**
+ Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
**Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (Required)** **:**
+ Knowledge regarding employee and labor relations, the National Labor Relations Act, the National Labor Relations Board, and state and federal employment laws.
+ Demonstrated experience managing collective bargaining agreements.
+ Demonstrated experience with mediation and other dispute resolution systems and techniques. Experience with dispute resolution programs or grievance programs.
+ Demonstrated interpersonal skills and understanding of group dynamics. Successful track record of establishing credibility and trust with a diverse client group.
+ Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, judgment, and influencing skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy.
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to prepare clear and concise reports and deliver formal presentations or training.
+ Demonstrated proficiency with business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite and human resource information systems.
+ Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, manage shifting priorities, and handle numerous time-sensitive projects with multiple deadlines.
+ Ability to accomplish goals working through formal and informal channels, with diplomacy and tactfulness.
+ Demonstrated creativity, problem solving, critical analysis, initiative, judgment and, decision-making skills.
+ Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team.
+ Ability to learn and become proficient in academic policies and graduate student financial support.
+ Ability to direct the work of others.

+ Experience working in a university or academic environment

**Pay Range** **:**
**The expected pay range for this position is $116,849 to $148,275 per annum.**
