Job Summary: The Student Nurse Extern is a rising senior nursing student that is in a NCBON approved Nursing Program. The student is under the direct supervision of the assigned clinical preceptor. The student and preceptor are responsible for achieving the nurse extern competencies. The Clinical Manager as well as the Professional Development Specialist are responsible for the direction of the nurse extern on the clinical unit. Supplemental educational opportunities will be provided to the Student Nurse Extern at the direction of the Professional Development Specialist.

Minimum Requirements:
Enrolled in an NC State Board of Nursing approved School of Nursing and successfully completed junior year, Submit two references for admission based on last semester course work. Knowledge of current trends and techniques in nursing. Possesses the ability to relate effectively to patients, their families, physicians, staff, and all others using proper channels of communication. Submit a transcript of all course work. Nurse Aid I certification listed with the North Carolina Department of Facilities Services and NA II listed with the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients. These skills are under the guidance of the nurse preceptor. AHA CPR certification. The ability to work clinical preceptors assigned schedule of 36 hours per week. Deliver outstanding customer service that upholds CarolinaEast's Standards of Excellence.
