Student Services Associate
Union County College is a public comprehensive community college providing quality, affordable, accessible educational programs that serve the greater Union County region. It is the oldest of New Jerseys 19 Associate Degree Colleges, serving both career-minded and transfer-oriented students since 1933. The College enrolls almost 30,000 credit, non-credit and continuing education students and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Many programs lead to the Associate in Arts, Science and Applied Science degrees. Campus: Cranford General Description: The Student Service Associate is an initial contact with student athletes seeking entry into the college seeking services. The Associate will provide guidance and direction; therefore she/he must be fully familiar with every aspect of student services that a prospective or current student may utilize. Characteristics, Duties and Responsibilities: • Provides direction, process overview and information to students, parents, and others regarding: the College admission process, registration, financial aid, student account functions, College programs, activities, and student services. Provides referrals to other College departments as needed. • Encourage students to schedule meetings with their academic advisor and underscore the significance of actively reviewing their educational plans. • Monitors services and traffic flow in the Glasser Center for Student Athlete Academic Achievement. • Provides administrative support including (but not limited to) heavy telephone and in person inquiry, preparing correspondence and mailings, data input, filing reports, scanning of documents to the College Life/Athletics department. • Supports Student Service Generalists, Specialists and Coordinators in performance of their duties as it relates to programming (i.e.: Financial Aid Literacy workshops, New Student Orientation, Athletic programming). • Ability to exercise impeccable customer service skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with students and the College community. Must be able to service multiple students at once. • Performs other duties as assigned. Education Requirements: Associate degree required. Experience: • Minimum of one (1) year of office & customer service experience. Competencies and Skills Required: • Minimum of one (1) year of office & customer service experience. Physical Demands and Work Environment: • This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled. • Some physical effort is required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. • Work may require long periods of standing. • No or very limited exposure to physical risk. • Some travel required.
