Job Summary:
The Substance Use Specialists perform initial drug use assessments, provide individual and group counseling sessions and contribute to person/family centered, trauma informed treatment planning for program clients. They work closely with client therapists, primary care providers, peers and case managers, and complete SBIRTS, crisis intervention, and relapse prevention plans.
Shift Hours: This position is full-time Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
Salary: The salary range for the role is $45,000 - $55,000 per year.
Location Address: 2090 Adam Clayton Powell Jr Boulevard, New York, NY 10027. Our office is easily accessible by public transportation.
Workplace Flexibility: Hybrid - Positions for which staff can work from a remote (home or another suitable space) one day per week or more (in a typical week) as by leadership. Occasional travel required.
What you will be doing:
Provide substance use treatment as a member of a multidisciplinary care team to clients enrolled in NCCBHC using team-based approach to treatment working collaboratively with therapists, psychiatrists/PNPs, peer specialist, case managers, nurses, and family membersPerform Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT)Provide services that are person/family-centered, strengths-based, recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and culturally competentIdentify the treatment needs of and with clients, based on severity of substance use, stage of change, and immediate needs as well as recommended treatment objectivesEngage clients with urgent and crisis substance use needs at all stages of NCCBHC services to resolve substance use crisis, assess treatment needs, and provide substance use expertise for person-centered evaluation and treatment planningAt all stages of engagement starting at referral to services obtain information to establish the degree of risk for substance use and associated harmful behaviors and provide interventions and supports to promote progress towards recoveryProvide individual counseling, relapse prevention, psychoeducation, and harm reduction using motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) responsesRun evidence-based substance use treatment and Relapse Prevention groupsAct as an advocate and liaison for clients in securing access to MAT, emergency detox and rehabilitation care, and other community supports that promote integrated substance use or dual disorder treatmentDispense Naloxone response kits as an approved NYS dispenser promoting harm reductionOutreach and network with DCO partners providing crisis stabilization, inpatient/residential detox and rehabilitative treatment centers to support workflows and collaborative workContribute to ongoing organizational commitments to diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracist practices in delivery of services and work as member of the NCCBHC
What we are looking for:
CASAC, CASAC-T, or be able to receive CASAC within a year of hire; and have 2 years of experienceExperience working in substance use or mental health treatment settingExperience of working with people involved in the criminal legal systemIndividuals with lived experience are encouraged to apply
