Gannett Fleming is looking for a Substation Designer to join our expanding Power Group in the St. Louis, Mo office. As a Substation Designer, you will support utility and power substation projects and clients.

 

The growth and diversification of the Power Business Line is a top initiative, on both a regional and national scale. What you will do:

Under the direction of a lead engineer, design and execution of high-voltage substations projects in the 34.5kV – 500kV range with an emphasis on project safety, cost, quality and reliability.Provide drafting support to lead substation engineersFollow specific instructions of supervisor or engineers to perform the more complex design assignments requiring application of standard design principles and practicesUse standard CAD tools to create drawings and related deliverablesDevelop drawings such as: General Arrangements, sections details, grounding details, raceway plans and details, Electrical elevations, Control Building layouts and elevation, panel fronts, field cabinet layouts, design substation duct bankDevelop one & three line diagrams; schematics and wiring diagrams; control and relay panel layouts; control and relay panel and equipment wiring diagrams; SCADA system and communications interfaces including RTUs, HMIs and IEDs; auxiliary system design including batteries and chargers

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate degree in design, drafting preferred3+ years of relevant substation or general electrical T&D designing experience.Expertise in the use of computer-aided drafting tools, specifically AutoCAD; MicroStation is a plusKnowledge of substation phase spacing and electrical clearance requirements for live conductors, switch components, and bus supportsKnowledge of substation voltages, MV, HV, EHVThorough knowledge of substation structures and equipment including connectors, insulators, switches, and all types of conductors and how they interconnectKnowledge in substation construction and/or commissioning techniques and industry standards is a plus, but not necessaryAbility to review project documents and recommend value engineering ideas is a plus, but not necessaryRequires attention to detail and ability to learn and implement client drafting standards
