Substation Engineer

With almost 40 years of experience, our scalable talent solutions and engineering and sciences services provide the expertise our customers need to achieve more.> Performs civil (and basic electrical) engineering computations and designs substations, switching stations, communication sites, and other engineering projects. > Provides engineering and technical support to field personnel throughout the construction of projects. Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesPROJECTS: > Performs engineering computations related to site design, foundation design, structure design, etc. NOTE: Computations will include knowledge and application of electrical engineering concepts and standards. > Creates engineering and construction plans and specifications for substations, switching stations, and communication sites. > Prepares purchase requisitions, bid packages, and material orders to acquire materials, equipment, and/or services necessary for substation/switching station/communication site acquisition and construction. > Performs bid analyses/evaluations and makes recommendations for materials, equipment, and/or services.> Prepares necessary permitting documents and submittals throughout various phases of projects. NOTE: Attendance and participation in County, City, and Municipality public meetings may be required.> Acts as the project lead for assigned projects by attending project meetings and managing design activities and material/equipment/service acquisitions to meet the project schedules. > Openly and pro-actively coordinates with internal and external customers and other units as necessary. > Ensures that all project records are maintained in system directories and within ECM timely and accurately. > Delegates tasks as necessary to assigned team members and oversees/directs as necessary. > Ensures that all projects are completed in accordance with approved design guidelines accurately and within the scheduled time frame. > Serves as the primary checker/reviewer for calculations, designs, drawings, specifications, bids and orders, etc. for assigned projects.> Prepares preliminary station designs and layouts for future work. This may require various scenarios and iterations.> Prepares project estimates for various station layouts and/or additions using known (actual, historic) project and material costs.INNOVATION/CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT: > Takes initiative in seeking continuous process improvements through researching new materials, equipment, software, and engineering practices.> Works with field personnel to become more familiar with standard materials, construction practices, and how the design documents are used to build from.STANDARDS: > Utilizes unit CAD and design standards.> Reviews and updates specifications, the CAD cell library, and the standard material catalog. > Participates in review meetings, interfaces with vendors, and follows all standard procedures. > Maintains contact with vendors to keep abreast of new designs and technologies.

Education and Experience Requirements- Bachelors degree in civil engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited college/university with background in site design, foundation design, and/or structural design preferred. - A minimum of five years of direct civil design experience is required. - Must demonstrate strong communication and computer skills.
