Job Title: Substation Principal Engineer/Lead
Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Substation Principal Engineer/Lead to oversee and manage all assigned substation projects from conception through construction and commissioning. This role requires a dynamic individual capable of planning, coordinating, and completing large-scale projects within budgetary and scheduling guidelines while ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

ResponsibilitiesManage all assigned substation projects from conception through construction and commissioning.Work with the Early-Stage Project Manager to support the engineering requirements and scope with the Development Group.Plan, coordinate, and complete large-scale or several medium to small complex projects within budgetary and scheduling guidelines.Secure required resources and use formal processes and tools to manage resources, budgets, risks, and changes.Conduct project meetings and be responsible for project tracking and analysis.Identify issues and challenges, measure and validate results, and implement solutions.Provide information to internal and external clients on moderate to complex issues.Create and communicate presentation materials for report-out and updates with various levels of internal and external stakeholders.Provide training, due diligence, and technical oversight of external engineers of record for all assigned substation projects.Secure engineering consulting resources from a list of approved suppliers by developing a scope of work, securing bids, evaluating, and awarding work through Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) Group.Coordinate with other project stakeholders to develop and secure a substation site and support any engineering updates, data, and permits necessary to design and build the substation.Coordinate with other groups to ensure that the assigned E&C substation projects are successful.Support Transmission Services during the review of interconnection documentation, ensuring compliance with all requirements.Manage all project long lead major material orders to minimize risk of delays or exceeding the project budget.Assist ISC with all substation project SOW creation, review, approval, and preparation of shopping carts for engineering services and materials in a timely manner.Support E&C Estimating with template updates via project feedback, technical support, and scope modifications.Work collaboratively with project engineering resources in various disciplines to determine project priorities, work plans, and lines of demarcation.Ensure projects are efficiently, cost-effectively, and safely implemented in accordance with department processes, procedures, industry standards, and policies.Support assigned project commissioning activities to meet corporate objectives.Support Legal in any regulatory filings, depositions, and/or hearings.Collaborate with component OEMs to enhance/adapt their designs to better integrate with our philosophies.Conduct external research and stay abreast of new developments or innovative advancements pertaining to the project.Provide coaching, leadership, and direction to the project team.Perform other job-related duties as assigned.Essential SkillsFERC, IEEE standards, NESC, ASCESubstation design and engineeringExperience with 500kV or 765kVExperience with HVDC linesGood electrical understanding of line design (conductor selection, necessary studies, Audible noise, EMF, ROW considerations)Good communication and project management skillsBachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering is preferred5+ years’ experience in substation design and engineering of high voltage substation projects is highly preferredProject Engineering and/or Project Management experience with a strong bias for actionPMP and/or P.E. in a related discipline is a plusAdditional Skills & QualificationsPrior transmission line design and construction experienceWork Environment
