Subsystem Lead Engineer, High Voltage Battery Management Systems - SDV
Job Description

Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be onsite full-time, but the general expectation is that the employee will be onsite a minimum of 3 days each week.

The Role:

As a Subsystem Lead Engineer specializing in High Voltage Battery Management Systems and Vehicle Mechatronics Embedded Controls (VMEC), you will pioneer building requirements and developing the complex domain of high voltage contactor controls, energy management, and optimize system operation to enhance the range and drivability of Electrified Vehicles.

Your endeavors will significantly contribute to GM's vision of a world with ZERO Crashes, ZERO Emissions, and ZERO Congestion, emphasizing the transformative impact of Software Defined Vehicle architecture enabled by the Ultifi platform.

What You’ll Do:

Formulate, document, and manage both Functional and Non-Functional Subsystem Requirements, diligently allocating them to pertinent software and hardware components.

Undertake a comprehensive subsystem analysis including Noise factors, Interface mapping, Actuator and sensor performance requirements, and Behavioral Driven Development (BDD) principles.

Direct and evolve subsystem design with uniform solutions across diverse vehicle architectures to reduce complexity.

Compile, sustain, and manage extensive documentation like context diagram, state diagram, system integration, Sub-System Technical Specification (SSTS), and Behavioral Test Specifications (BTS) for the defined subsystems.

Lead initiatives in crafting and finalizing Subsystem DFMEAs, ensuring coherent linkage to component and system DFMEAs, and manage FMEA processes across applicable subsystems.

Engage in root cause analysis for all applicable sub-system related issues, translating solutions into new or revised requirements for high voltage battery systems.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Hands on Systems Engineering

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Software, Computer, Electronics, Automotive or equivalent)

5+ years of experience in automotive embedded software development with C/C++

Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)

Understanding Built-In Quality concepts

Sharp analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills

Demonstrated proficiency in project management, prioritization, and independent decision-making

Familiarity with requirements and change management tools, Model Based Systems Engineering and associated SysML Tools, Scaled Agile Development (SAFe) process, OBD regulations requirements, and safety critical systems (ISO-26262)

Automotive SPICE (ASPICE)

Embedded Software Development Expertise:

Possess a robust experience in embedded software development with the ability to draft software requirements ensuring software independence from hardware, while understanding the underlying hardware architecture.

Utilize simulation environments and plant modeling for testing or requirements generation. Your expertise in embedded software development is complemented by a deep understanding of Battery Systems, empowering you to adeptly navigate through the complexities of hardware-software interactions.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)

Master’s or PhD in Engineering with a focus on Controls

Experience in developing software for Electrification highly preferred

Proficiency in EV and Hybrid Operating Strategy execution, constraints management, EV Driveline Dynamics management, and battery power management

MIT xPRO Architecture & Systems Engineering: Model & Methods to manage complex systems, systems engineering
