Description/Job Summary
Upward Bound Math and Science Program (UBMS) is a federally funded grant program that serves first-generation, underserved high school students. This pre-college program was developed to strengthen the math and science skills of high-school students and to encourage them to pursue postsecondary degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The UBMS Student Success Coach is part of a team of positive mentors aimed to improve postsecondary enrollment, retention, and completion outcomes. The Succes coach will provide intrusive counseling to identify key areas for improvement of academic and personal development and create an individualized college and career readiness plan to support those goals. The Success Coach will help guide and empower students to become more academically successful in their postsecondary pursuits in STEM careers.
Responsibilities/Duties
Essential Responsibilities:
The Upward Bound Math and Science Success Coach is responsible for assisting students in developing academic and social skills needed to be successful in high school, college, personally, and professionally. The Success Coach is responsible for:
+ Managing a caseload of 62-70 students.
+ Evaluating students' abilities and interests through assessments, interviews, and individual planning.
+ Developing intervention plans for students with academic and/or social difficulties.
+ Providing intrusive counseling for individuals and small groups based on student and program needs.
+ Working with students to develop skills, such as organizational and time management abilities and effective study skills.
+ Working with students to create a plan to achieve academic and career goals.
+ Assistance with Financial Literacy, College Admission, Internships, and workforce development partners to improve college and career readiness outcomes.
+ Maintaining documentation of services in an electronic database and participant files.
+ Collaboration in conducting College Access workshops, seminars, and training.
****THIS POSITION IS PART-TIME****
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Human Services, Counseling, or related field.
+ Combination of education and/or experience demonstrating comparable knowledge, skills and abilities.
+ One year of experience in college and career advising, coaching or counseling of underserved high school students in an education setting.
Preferred Qualifications
+ A Master's degree in higher education, education, psychology, or related field of study.
+ Three years of experience providing college access & retention services to high school students.
+ Previous experience working other Federal TRIO Grant programs.
