ResponsibilitiesLocate, review, and research job locations to identify landmarks, physical objects, and significant land changes that would affect the survey.Supervise the work of the survey crew, evaluate priorities, and coordinate and organize work efforts.Supervise the standard of work being performed and derive the necessary field calculations from work completed.Supervise the maintenance of instruments and equipment.Ensure that angles, distances, and other collected information are accurate and conform to regulations and standards.Coordinate findings with engineering personnel, clients, and others concerned with projects.Research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys.Determine methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control.Keep accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe work performed.Complete daily logs and expense reports.Complete company and/or client safety forms and ensure all crew members follow safety procedures.Consult with computer operators and review the final production of work performed.Familiarity with commonly used surveying terms and the use and care of survey tools and other survey field equipment used for measuring, sighting, and leveling.Proficiency in the operation of survey equipment such as the Total Station/Data Collector, Level, and various Global Positioning System (GPS) methods.Essential SkillsHigh School diploma or GED required.At least 2 years of survey experience preferred.Willingness to travel is a mustProficiency with Survey equipment (total stations and GPS) preferred.Experience working outside regularly, preferably in extreme conditions.Valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record.Ability to pass a drug test.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in subsurface utility engineering (utility designating & locating) preferred but not required.Willingness to work on a vacuum excavation truck to perform utility locating.Good technical skills and behavioral traits including being process-oriented, steady, helpful, honest, trustworthy, adaptable, analytical, problem-solving, methodical, consistent, detail-oriented, and precise.Dislike for mistakes and preference for structure.Work Environment
The individual will work out of the Raleigh, NC office and spend the majority of their time in the field. Travel within the region (NC, SC, VA) may be required. If travel extends beyond a daily commute, compensation and overnight accommodations will be provided. The primary workload is within a daily commute, but the expectation is set for 60% fieldwork.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00/hr.
