By living the Amtrak values, focusing on our capabilities, and actively embracing and fostering diverse ideas, backgrounds, and perspectives, together we will honor our past and make Amtrak a company of the future.   POSITION SUMMARY: As an Intern within the New York Division Structures group, the individual will be responsible for assisting in the management and oversight of projects and maintenance activities in the NY/NJ area. This position will assist the Deputy Division Engineer in the oversight of capital projects and maintenance tasks related to tunnels, bridges, railroad facilities, and stations. This position has a combination of office and field environment. The individual will work under close supervision of field engineers and in collaboration with all levels of stakeholders.  Individuals in this role use project &construction management knowledge and analytical/problem solving skills to support assigned projects and work activities, including:  Support project performance reporting  Create and maintain project schedules  Work with project team members and subject matter experts to coordinate logistics for assigned project   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Collect, consolidate, and review project performance data from various sources.  Support project teams with project status reporting, documentation, controls, and other processes to ensure compliance with audit requirements, department procedures and standards  Create and maintain required documentation including project logs, project schedules, requirements documents, project budgets, and status reports  Assist in development and review of project construction activity schedule • Assist in the development of Safety Site Specific Work Plan (SSSWP) to ensure safety of the job  Reproduce and distribute project documents and reports  Maintains, supports, and promotes a safe work environment while complying with all of Amtrak’s safety rules, policies, and procedures.   MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.  Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Engineering (Civil or Electrical). Must have at least 2 years of academic undergraduate studies completed or a junior status at minimum.  Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher   PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Relevant work experience (e.g., internships, summer positions, school jobs).  Must have the ability to coordinate efforts with other technical disciplines.  Strong Safety Focus.  Demonstrated experience in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, MS Project) sufficient to prepare effective business analyses, production logs and presentations.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.   COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.   The hourly range is $17.50 per hour - $35.00 per hour.
