About the role
As a Reworld intern, you will work on projects that have a real impact on sustainability. Students with a genuine interest in developing a career in renewable energy, sustainability, and waste to energy technology are encouraged to apply!
What You'll Do
The Design Engineering Intern will be a member of the Engineering teams within the Corporate Engineering function. The team’s scope covers design and operations support for all process & mechanical aspects of the Energy-from-Waste process at 40+ facilities globally. This includes boilers, combustion and steam generation systems, turbine, balance of plant auxiliaries, air pollution control systems, emissions control, refuse and ash handling systems etc. The Design Engineering Intern will go through a summer program for 3 months and will be assigned to either the Process or Mechanical Engineering departments and will perform tasks under the supervision and mentorship of subject matter experts from both departments on a variety of different systems. Under the supervision of Corporate Engineering, the Design Engineering Intern provides design and operations engineering support to Energy-from-Waste facilities across the fleet, including operations and maintenance support as well as equipment replacement and upgrade projects. This role includes regular travel to facilities to gain onsite exposure and support engineering tasks.
Project Support: Support engineering scope development and execution as part of plant capital improvement projects. This includes the collection and review of plant technical information, review and development of piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&ID’s), plant modification option evaluation, concept development including process and mechanical design calculations, concept layout sketch and/or drawing development, request for vendor proposal specification development, bid evaluation support, design review, construction inspections and commissioning support.
Operations Support: Support engineering activities at facilities including shut down inspections on various different systems, equipment condition assessments, plant performance testing and general troubleshooting.
Who You Are:
Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
Problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data to identify trends.
Effective written, oral, and presentation skills.
Ability to handle multiple assignments.
Must be able to travel independently to facilities across the country, if needed.
Must be able to perform plant walk-downs and inspections around heavy industrial equipment within the Waste-to-Energy facilities.
