Position Summary

The Discovery Biotherapeutics group in San Diego, California is dedicated to the discovery and development of innovative biologics. Our primary mission is to design and implement advanced biological tools and processes that drive the forefront of therapeutic innovation. By leveraging cutting-edge technologies and expertise, we aim to pioneer new approaches that enable the creation of novel biologics, ultimately advancing the field of biotherapeutics and improving patient outcomes.

We are seeking a highly motivated student with at least 2 years of study towards a bachelor’s degree from accredited colleges and university to participate in a 10-week summer internship on antibody drug discovery. This position focuses on optimizing and characterizing recombinant antibody expression in mammalian cells, using a systematic Design of Experiments (DOE) approach to improve protein yields, purity, and post-translational modifications while equipping the intern with hands-on experience in cell culture, molecular cloning, protein purification, and analytical techniques.


Key Responsibilities

Conduct a literature review and design experiments using a DOE approach.

Perform molecular cloning, transfection, and optimize antibody expression conditions.

Purify and characterize recombinant antibodies, assessing purity and modifications.

Collaborate closely with the mentor and team to achieve project objectives.

Participate and contribute during scientific discussions.

Analyze data and present project findings at the conclusion of the program.


Qualifications & Experience

Experience and fundamental understanding of recombinant technologies, protein purification, and protein characterization recommended.

Candidate must be in enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program majoring in Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.

Must have completed a minimum of 2 years of study towards a bachelor’s degree by June 2025

Candidate should have basic laboratory skills (via lab course, academic lab, or industry lab)

Candidate should have strong communication and presentation skills (written and verbal), and the ability to work in a collaborative environment.

Candidate must be eligible for employment in the United States, and available to work for 10 consecutive weeks, from June 2nd, 2025, to August 8th, 2025.

This is a lab-based, onsite role, located at our San Diego, CA site.

The starting compensation for this job is a range from $21.00/hour - $29.00/hour. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and the geographic location where work is performed. Final individual compensation is decided commensurate with demonstrated experience and education level.
