A day in the life of a Surety Underwriting Intern might include:
Captures information from multiple sources, account to company guidelines to support underwritingReview individual risks for acceptability and handles those within authority, based on company guidelines and standards.Completes assigned Underwriting transactions and tasks within established time and service standard.Analysis and review of CPA and company financial statements and schedules. Input of those into the surety system. Determines necessary steps to process work. Decides to accept, reject, or modify based on level of authorityConsults with agents and internal partners. Recommends opportunities for business development and service capabilitiesEnters policies and runs reports for the underwriting file.Works cooperatively and builds strong working relationships with territory, field, claims, sales, and other associates to share and gather information necessary to complete work.About You
A successful Surety Underwriting Intern at Nationwide has:
Education
Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, Insurance, economics, or related fieldCompletion of junior year is preferredInvolvement in student activities and/or some work experienceSkills/Competencies
General understanding of basic analytical and financial techniques preferred.Verbal and written communication skills necessary to interact with all levels of internal and external contacts.Ability to evaluate and recommend solutions to work-related problems.Ability to analyze insurance risks to determine the degree of acceptability and pricing.Effective time management skills and competencies preferred.Ability to operate PC and related software, including Microsoft Excel.Nationwide does not participate in the Stem OPT Extension program. At its sole discretion, Nationwide determines whether to offer sponsorship for qualifying positions based on business need and budget. However, it is not usually available for entry level roles.
